End users of mobile devices protected by SMS 4.x for Symbian need to activate their licenses. How can license files be generated, distributed, and subscriptions activated?

License File Generator
License File Generator is a small utility for generating License Manager files for Enterprise consumers. This utility (LicenseFileGenerator.exe) can be found in the Tools folder of the product CD.

Steps to Create a License File

1. Launch the tool License File Generator.exe
2. Enter in the unique License code, which was provided during purchase. (12 numbers, no spaces or letters)
3. Enter in the Developer ID: 081
4. Enter in the Application ID:
- S60: 0040397
- UIQ: 0050397
5. Check the “Don’t show license code” box
6. Select the “Generate” button
7. Your license code is now in the directory from which LicenseFileGenerator.exe was run as a DAT file

The license file should be placed into the following location on the devices: c:\system\data\lm\

The user will now have to select “Subscription” in the menu option of the Symantec Mobile Security application in order to validate the license code with Symantec. No "successfully licensed" message will be displayed, but after successful activation the "Subscription" menu item disappears.

License Manager
Instead of having users manually enter license codes for their products, you can use your MDM system to push license files to devices.

The license file should be placed into the following location on the devices: c:\system\data\lm

After you push the license files, users are prompted to allow the licensing client to make a GPRS connection to complete the license activation.

Final Note:
If you purchase Symantec Mobile Security for both UIQ and S60, then you will have to create two DAT files, one for UIQ and one for S60.
