Problem
After installing Symantec Mail Security 6.0.8 on Windows 2008 Small Business Server with Exchange 2007, errors appear in the Windows Application Event log from source "Brightmail," event ID 514, "Invalid OS version".
Symptoms
Type: Error
Date: 22/04/2009
Time: 14:56:56
Event: 514
Source: Brightmail
Category:
User: N/A
Computer: SERVERNAME.domain.local
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 514 ) in Source ( Brightmail ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): .
[Brightmail] (ALERT:5100.5104): [12273] Invalid OS version.
Cause
BEIK 6.1 (The Brightmail Engine Integration Kit, the component used for Premium Antispam in Mail Security for Exchange) is not technically supported on Windows Server 2008
Solution
This is purely a cosmetic error, and has been found to occur even when Premium Antispam is functioning correctly. The error message can be safely ignored. If Premium Antispam is not functioning, it is due to another reason, not this error. For reference, the release notes for 6.0.8 detail this error: http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-gate.nsf/docid/2007101212030454
