VERITAS Cluster Server for Windows NT v1.2 Service Pack 2

Solution

Overview
===========================================
The VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS) Service Pack 2 installer updates a single system in a VCS cluster with the agents included in the service pack. The service pack includes two new agents:
  • Volume Manager agent
  • MountV agent

    Service Pack 2 Technical Information
    ===================================
    Volume Manager agent:

    The Volume Manager agent imports, monitors, and deports a cluster disk group configured with the VERITAS Volume Manager 4.26. The agent makes the disk group highly available. The Volume Manager agent supports clustered disk groups with the NTFS file system. The agent also supports a SAN environment.

    MountV Agent:

    The MountV agent brings a cluster disk group mount point online, monitors it, and takes it offline. When a cluster disk group fails over to another system, the MountV agent ensures that the new system accesses the disk group the same way it was accessed before failover. The MountV agent ensures a consistent device path by mounting the disk group with the same mount point (drive letter) on the new system. It also ensures proper dismounting from a failed system when a resource or group is taken offline. The MountV agent depends on the Volume Manager agent for operation.

    For more information regarding these agents, please refer to the Addendum to VCS 1.2 Installation Guide, located in the VCS docs directory (post-installation), or contact VERITAS Support.

    Prerequisites
    ===========================================
    The following prerequisites must be met prior to installing Service Pack 2 on the VCS system.

    1. If a previous version of Service Pack 2 is installed, uninstall it.
    2. The VERITAS High Availability Engine (HAD) must be running on the system that Service Pack 2 is being applied to.
    3. HAD must be offline on all other systems in the cluster.
    4. All resources on the current system must be offline.

    To uninstall a previous version of Service Pack 2:

    If you installed a previous version of Service Pack 2, you may uninstall it using the uninstaller of the installed Service Pack 2 version.

    If, however, you added the Volume Manager and the MountV agent manually, you must delete the agents manually:

    1. Stop the High Availability Engine service (HAD).
    2. Remove the files VMDg.dll and MountV.dll from the %VCS_HOME%\bin\VmDg\ and %VCS_HOME%\bin\MountV\ directories, respectively.
    3. Remove the VMDg and MountV resource types from the Types.cf configuration file.
    4. Remove the Volume Manager and MountV resources from the Main.cf configuration file.

    Installing VCS Service Pack 2
    =====================================

    1. Insert the Service Pack 2 CD.
    2. From Windows Explorer, double-click Setup.exe to launch the installer.
    3. Follow the wizard instructions to complete the installation.

    About the Installation
    ===========================================

    The Service Pack 2 installer performs the following tasks:

  • Performs check on the local system to verify that HAD is alive and in a RUNNING state.
  • Verifies that VCS Service Pack 1 is installed on the system.
  • If Service Pack 1 is not installed, it launches the Service Pack 1 installer.
  • Imports the necessary TYPE information into VCS for the new Volume Manager agent and the MountV agent.
  • Stops the High Availability Engine service (HAD).
  • Copies in new files for the Service Pack 2 update.
  • Starts the High Availability Engine service (HAD).

    About the Uninstallation
    ==========================================
    The SP2 uninstaller performs the following tasks:

  • Performs check on the local system to verify that HAD is alive and in a RUNNING state.
  • Stops the High Availability Engine service (HAD).
  • Removes the existing files for both the Volume Manager and MountV agents.
  • Starts the High Availability Engine service (HAD).
  • Removes the Volume Manager and MountV agent TYPE information.
  • Note that the SP2 uninstaller DOES NOT uninstall SP1.
  • Modifies the current TYPE structure back to the "pre-Service Pack 2" TYPE structure.

    Known Limitations
    =================================================
    FAT Support:

    The MountV agent currently does not support FAT file systems.

    DiskGroupName:

    We recommend that you configure the attribute DiskGroupName in the same case as it is defined while creating the disk group.

    VCS GUI hot fix:

    To configure VMDg and MountV service groups using VCS GUI templates, you need to install the VCS GUI hot fix, which is available at:
