How to change the Portmapper to be used by VERITAS Storage Replicator Version 2.1

Solution

VERITAS Storage Replicator (VSR) installs and uses the Noblenet Portmapper by default.  It is possible that other applications on the server are using a portmapper as well.  Since only one portmapper can run on a machine, it may be necessary to change the portmapper that VSR uses.  To configure VSR to use a different portmapper, please follow the instructions below:

1. Make sure that the Noblenet Portmapper Service installed by VSR has been stopped and disabled. (The portmapper installed by VSR is displayed as 'Noblenet Portmapper for TCP' in the Services applet.)

2. Open Regedt32.

3.  Locate the Registry key: "HKey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ENL"  (See Figure 1.)

4.  Remove the value data "NoblenetPortmapper" from the "DependOnService" entry, leaving it blank as shown in Figure 2.

5. Locate the Registry key: "HKey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\RxRSA" (See Figure 3.)

6.  Change the value of the entry "DependOnService" from "NoblenetPortmapper ENL" to "<service_name> ENL" where  <service_name> is the name of the key under "HKey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services" that corresponds to the third-party portmapper service to be used instead (Figure 4). Note that the name is case-sensitive. (In the example below, the 3rd party portmapper is named Noblenet Portmapper, as opposed to NoblenetPortmapper, which is installed by VSR.)

7. Restart the 'ENL" and "Storage Replicator RSA" services.  If this machine is the RMS, make sure to start the "Storage Replicator RMS" service as well.
