Primary Upgrade Path – Symantec Messaging Gateway
In conjunction with this end of life process, Symantec is pleased to offer our customers who have a current support contract or subscription a free-of-charge upgrade from SMS for SMTP to Symantec Brightmail Gateway 10.0.

Benefits of Symantec Messaging Gateway: Symantec Messaging Gateway offers several enhancements over Symantec Mail Security for SMTP, including:

    · Improved antispam protection Brightmail Gateway includes several antispam enhancements that improve effectiveness, accuracy, and performance. One major enhancement is the addition of Adaptive Reputation Management, including local reputation analysis based on customer-specific messaging traffic.

    · Data loss prevention for email—Brightmail Gateway integrates advanced content filtering, data loss prevention technology, and exact data-matching technology from Symantec Data Loss Prevention. This technology includes 78 prebuilt managed keyword dictionaries and 54 prebuilt premium templates to address internal and external compliance requirements such as HIPPA, GLBA, and SOX compliance.

    · Enhanced reporting and administration—Symantec Messaging Gateway allows mail administrators to quickly and accurately identify what happened to any message through an improved message audit facility. It also offers more than 50 customizable reports summarizing key statistics on antivirus, antispam, content control, and reputation blocking.

    · Physical or virtual appliance options—Symantec Messaging Gateway offers customers the choice between a standard physical appliance (Brightmail 8300 Series) and the Virtual Edition, a virtual appliance architecture certified for production deployment on VMware® environments. Physical appliances or VMware licenses must be acquired separately and are not included as part of the upgrade from Mail Security for SMTP.

Platform Options
Symantec Messaging Gateway is only supported as a physical or virtual appliance. Customers transitioning to Symantec Messaging Gateway will need to decide which form factor they would like to leverage:
