You want to know what types of files the Symantec Web Gateway will scan on downloads.
Symantec Web Gateway selectively picks up only certain file types for scanning:
1. Executables - SWG scans the following portable executable file types: .exe, .dll, .cpl, .ocx, .drv, and .scr files. It scans files with .com file extension in FTP, IM, and P2P protocols. It scans files with a ".com" file extension in HTTP when the HTTP content type is plain text or MS-DOS.
2. Compressed files - SWG scans compressed files with true type of .zip, .cab, and .rar.
3. MS Office documents - SWG scans Office 2003 and 2007 Word, Power Point, and Excel files.
4. PDFs - SWG scans PDF documents. PDF files are scanned as they are streamed to the client. No scanning page will be displayed for the user.
All other file types including FLASH, HTML, VB, or JS are not scanned currently.
For compressed files, the scan depth is set to 15.
Password protected containers such as .zip, .rar, and .7z cannot be scanned as they cannot be opened.
By default, the max file size that SWG will scan is set to 200MB. This size is configurable through the UI.
