What are the different startnode options in vxclustadm?

Solution

The vxclustadm utility provides an interface to VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) in the absence of a Cluster Manager. For initializing cluster functionality on a node, there are 3 options:

    /etc/vx/bin/vxclustadm -m nocm|vcs|gab startnode

The three options are explained below.

Option 1:
For a cluster without a cluster monitor and with 4 nodes:
    The cvmtab looks like this:
      # Clustername
      clustername CVM1
      # Daemon portnumbers
      port vxconfigd 4500
      port vxkmsgd 4501
      # Nodename Localname
      node 0 node0 node0_p
      node 1 node1 node1_p
      node 2 node2 node2_p
      node 3 node3 node3_p
On node 0:  By default, the first node initialized into the cluster is the Master.
    #vxclustadm -m nocm startnode
    #vxclustadm -s 1 membership 0
    On node 1:
    #vxclustadm -m nocm startnode
    #vxclustadm -s 2 membership 0 1
    On node 2:
    #vxclustadm -m nocm startnode
    #vxclustadm -s 3 membership 0 1 2
    On node 3:
    #vxclustadm -m nocm startnode
    #vxclustadm -s 4 membership 0 1 2 3

Option 2:
For a cluster running in the VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS) environment, the VCS cluster configuration file /etc/VRTSvcs/conf/config/main.cf will be used to get the cluster information. Run this on every node in the cluster:

    #vxclustadm -m vcs startnode

Option 3:
For a cluster running GAB out of the VCS environment, use the following command to start the cluster. Run this on every node in the cluster:
    vxclustadm -m gab startnode
