Issue

What is the new Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition Auto-Upgrade Feature?
The Symantec Protection Center has been upgraded to the latest release and you would like to know the best way to upgrade the clients to the latest release.

Solution

Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition will automatically upgrade all clients to the latest client package once the Symantec Protection Center has been upgraded.

Some administrators may wish to disable this feature so here are the steps to accomplish this:

To disable the auto-upgrade feature for clients
  1. Login to the Symantec Protection Center Console.
  2. Select the Computers page.
  3. Under My Company select the group that includes the clients you would like to prevent from using the auto-upgrade feature.
  4. Under Tasks select Edit the group properties.
  5. Click the checkbox for Disable Automatic Client Package Updates.
  6. Click OK.

Technical Information
After the update has been applied to the SPC, client upgrades may not be immediate. Clients will need to check in with the SPC, receive new policy information and content files, and successfully apply the new version.

After an auto-upgrade has been applied, entries similar to the following will appear in the Windows Application Event Log. These indicate a successful install:
