Multiple duplicate entries appear in Symantec QuickMenu after install of Symantec AntiVirus/Norton AntiVirus

After installing Symantec AntiVirus on top of Norton AntiVirus/Norton Internet Security or installing Norton AntiVirus or Norton AntiVirus/Norton Internet Security on top of Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh two entries for LiveUpdate and separate entries for Symantec AntiVirus and Norton AntiVirus appear in the Symantec QuickMenu in the menu bar in Mac OS X.


Cause



Installing an Enterprise version of the Macintosh antivirus product on top of the Consumer antivirus or vice-versa

Solution



If you are installing Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh, remove Norton AntiVirus/Norton Internet Security for Macintosh from the workstation.

If you are installing Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh/Norton Internet Security for Macintosh, remove Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh from the workstation.

The Symantec Uninstaller, provided on the CD disk image for Symantec AntiVirus for Macintosh, Norton AntiVirus for Macintosh and Norton Internet Security for Macintosh can be used to remove the products before the install of the software that is ultimately intended for use on the workstation.
