You have unmanaged client installations of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (NAVCE) or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition (Symantec AV). You want the unmanaged clients to forward alerts to an Alert Management System (AMS) server.

Solution

Unmanaged client alerting is a feature that was added in Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.03. If you are using NAVCE version 7.02 or earlier, then you cannot take advantage of this functionality.

To forward alerts to an AMS server:
  1. Use a text editor, such as Notepad, to create a new text file.
  2. Add the following lines:
    [KEYS]
    !KEY!=$REGROOT$\Common
    AMSServer=S
    AMS=D1
    !KEY!=$REGROOT$\ProductControl
    LoadAMS=D1
  3. Replace  with the IP or IPX address or computer name of the intended AMS server. If you use the computer name, then confirm that the client can resolve the server name. Be sure to include the S preceding . Do not include the brackets.
  4. Save the file as Grc.dat.
  5. Copy Grc.dat to the directory where NAVCE is installed. Do this on every unmanaged client that you want to forward alerts to the same AMS server.

NOTE: For the alert to be sent, the client computer must be connected to the network and must be able to connect to the AMS server. If either these conditions is not met, then the alert will not be sent.
