You do not see the "Scan Computer" option in the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition user interface. However, you do see the "Scan Floppy Disk" option.


Solution



When the option to Scan Computer is not displayed, the cause may be a missing Ldvptask.ocx file. The Ldvptask.ocx file is normally copied during the installation of the Symantec or Norton AntiVirus server or client. The file is copied to:

:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SSC

Replace the existing copy of Ldvptask.ocx on the machines where the Scan Computer option is not showing with a new copy of the file. You can copy the Ldvptask.ocx file from another server or client machine that is running the same version of Symantec or Norton AntiVirus and which shows the Scan Computer option functional.

Customers have reported that mapping a network drive displays the Scan Computer option, especially on Windows 95 and Windows 98 computers.

Also, updating video drivers has been shown to correct this problem.

If the problem persists, then uninstall and reinstall Symantec or Norton AntiVirus.
