This document provides important information about Discovery Collector, which you should read before you install or update the software. For the most up-to-date version of this document, see the following article on the Symantec Enterprise Support site:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC4754
Discovery Collector 9.0.3 is supported for use with Enterprise Vault 9.0.3 and later service packs.
The documentation that accompanies Discovery Collector provides extensive information on installation and configuration processes.
Support for Windows 7 as a desktop data source has been added.
A number of minor, reported issues have been resolved.
Note: If you are upgrading from Discovery Collector 9.0.2, you may ignore this section since the issue was fixed in 9.0.2.
In Chapter 16 of the Discovery Collector User Guide, the "Updating Software" section includes instructions on how to upgrade from Discovery Collector 9.0 to a later version by using a local repository. Note that you will encounter a known issue if you follow these instructions, but you can make successful upgrades by using the workarounds described below.
You can upgrade Discovery Collector in three ways:
We recommend that you upgrade Discovery Collector by using a remote repository, as this method is error-free. If you try to upgrade by using either of the local repository methods, the following error message appears:
Backing up '/etc/yum.conf'...done Preparing environment for update (this may take a minute)... Locating repository at 'dev:///dev/dvd'... not found Restoring '/etc/yum.conf'... done Your cluster may be in a bad state. Please contact StoredIQ Support for assistance Press return to continue...
The following sections describe how to avoid this issue.
Note: You require a password to undertake these workarounds. To obtain this password, contact Symantec Technical Support and open a support case, quoting your Support ID and Knowledge Base article TECH157727. After your case is logged, an agent will provide you with further instructions and the required password.
Mount the ISO in a Discovery Collector-supported version of VMware Server or vSphere.
See the Discovery Collector Installation and Planning Guide for details of the supported versions.
Log on to the Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector Appliance Console as root.
To do this, you require the password that Technical Support has provided.
Type the following series of commands in the terminal:

In this case, you can follow the instructions in the "Updating Software" section of the Discovery Collector User Guide. To obtain the URL that you require for this process, see the Enterprise_Vault_Discovery_Collector_9_0_3-Download_instructions.htm document on the Discovery Collector 9.0 page of the Symantec FileConnect site.
In outline, the procedure for upgrading by using a remote repository is as follows:
Type the required URL for the update process.
Discovery Collector checks for and downloads the new updates. This may take some time, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
Based on the data source, the file location field in Discovery Accelerator Review will have the following format for objects archived by Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector:
| CIFS | \\server\folder\ ... |
