This README.TXT file includes the following information : * SYMANTEC EVENT AGENT JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE * MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE * JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE PRE-INSTALLATION PROCEDURES * JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE INSTALLATION * SYSTEMS AFFECTED * KNOWN ISSUES * TESTED OPERATING SYSTEMS, AGENTS AND INFORMATION MANAGER VERSIONS ================================================================================ SYMANTEC EVENT AGENT JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE ================================================================================ The JLU Upgrade Package is used to upgrade the version of Java LiveUpdate (JLU) used by various versions of the Symantec Event Agent to JLU 3.7.7. ================================================================================ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE ================================================================================ * This package should only be installed on Windows, Linux, or Solaris systems on which the following versions of the Symantec Event Agent have been installed : - Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture (SESA) Agent 2.5 - Symantec Security Information Manager (SSIM) Agent 4.5 - Symantec Event Agent 4.7.0 * This package is approximately 2 MB in size. ================================================================================ JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE PRE-INSTALLATION PROCEDURES ================================================================================ Please perform the following before you install this package : * Save all work, backup required data, and close any Security Information Manager console sessions. ================================================================================ JLU UPGRADE PACKAGE INSTALLATION ================================================================================ Installation Steps for Windows systems : 1. Connect to the system on which the Symantec Event Agent is installed using an account with administrative privileges. 2. Download the off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package.zip and .md5 files. NOTE : If you are using file transfer utility then you must use BINARY mode when transferring the files to your Windows system. Some FTP utilities use ASCII mode by default, which will corrupt the installation file. 3. Verify the integrity of the downloaded .zip file by using a file verification tool such as md5sum for Windows. If you are using md5sum, execute the following command at a command prompt : md5sum -c off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package.zip.md5 NOTE : Both the .zip and .md5 files must be present in the same directory for md5sum to execute correctly. 4. Unzip the JLU Upgrade Package using a zip archive file extraction tool. 5. Open the "off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package" folder created during zip archive extraction. 6. Execute the install.bat file. NOTE : A backup copy of liveupdate.conf will be created as "liveupdate.conf.bkp" in a folder specific to the Windows version on which the Symantec Event Agent is installed. The exact path will be shown while executing the upgrade. For example, on a Windows XP system, the backup file will be present at: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\ Java LiveUpdate\liveupdate.conf.bkp" The JLU Upgrade log will be available at : \logs\jlu_upgrade.log is the folder where the Symantec Event Agent is is installed on the Windows system. Installation Steps for Linux and Solaris systems : 1. Log on to the system on which the Symantec Event Agent is installed using an account with administrative/root privileges either by using an SSH client or by logging on locally. 2. For Solaris systems, the Bash shell is needed for proper execution of the upgrade package. Execute following command to use Bash shell : bash 3. Download the off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package.zip and .md5 files to the /tmp directory. Installing from other locations may cause the upgrade to fail. NOTE: You must use BINARY mode when transferring the files to your Linux or Solaris system. Some FTP utilities use ASCII mode by default, which will corrupt the installation file. 4. Verify the integrity of the downloaded .zip file by using a file verification tool such as md5sum (on Linux platforms) or digest (on Solaris platforms). On Linux platforms, execute the following command : md5sum -c off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package.zip.md5 NOTE: Both the .zip and .md5 files must be present in the same directory for md5sum to execute correctly. On Solaris platforms, execute the following command : digest -a md5 off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package.zip 5. Unpack the JLU Upgrade Package by executing the following command : unzip off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package.zip 6. Change directory to the JLU Upgrade Package directory by executing the following command : cd off-box_agent_jlu_upgrade_package 7. Execute the following command : ./install.sh NOTE: A backup copy of "/etc/liveupdate.conf" will be created as "/etc/liveupdate.conf.bkp". The JLU Upgrade log will be available at : /logs/jlu_upgrade.log is the folder where the Symantec Event Agent is is installed on the Linux or Solaris system. ================================================================================ SYSTEMS AFFECTED ================================================================================ Only systems on which the Symantec Event Agent JLU Upgrade Package is installed will be affected. ================================================================================ KNOWN ISSUES ================================================================================ 1. If an off-box Symantec Event Agent is uninstalled and reinstalled, then reinstallation of Symantec Event Agent JLU Upgrade Package is also required. 2. Installation of the Symantec Event Agent JLU Upgrade Package on Windows 2000 systems with a service pack level lower that SP4 is not supported. To install the JLU Upgrade Package, please upgrade Windows 2000 machines to SP4 prior to applying the JLU Upgrade Package. 3. After installing JLU 3.7.7, Live Update scheduling distributed through thick UI will not work for SSIM version prior to SSIM 4.7 MP3. However, if customer needs to modify the configuration for SSIM version prior to SSIM 4.7 MP3, they can use the backup file created to replace the original configuration file & modify it manually. 4. On Windows systems, running the "install.bat" installation batch file using the "Run as Administrator" option directly through Windows Explorer will result in a failed installation. To install the JLU Upgrade Package on Windows systems, start a command prompt session using the "Run as Administrator" option.
