The following Linux packages have been updated to include security updates: bind krb5 libuser openssl tzdata libtiff python gpg-pubkey 2. Upgraded Apache Tomcat to apache-tomcat-5.5.33 3. Upgraded Linux Kernel to kernel-2.6.9-100.EL ================================================================================ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY THE SECURITY PATCH ================================================================================ Apply this Security Patch only to Information Manager servers running 4.6 Security Patch 8 (SP8) as shipped from Symantec. Do not apply to systems running earlier versions of Symantec Security Information Manager. Note: Security Patch 9 requires 86 MB of free disk space in the / partition. In the Downloads section of the site, you can obtain updated versions of the documentation. ================================================================================ SECURITY PATCH PRE-INSTALLATION PROCEDURES ================================================================================ Before you install this Security Patch, do the following: * Save all the work and close any Security Information Manager console sessions. ================================================================================ SECURITY PATCH INSTALLATION ================================================================================ After you have followed the pre-installation procedures, to install the Security Patch, do the following: 1. Connect to the server using an account with administrative privileges either by using an SSH client or by logging on locally. 2. Download the ssim_r4.6_SecurityPatch9-4.tar.gz and .md5 files to the /tmp directory. NOTE: You must use BINARY mode when transferring the files to the server. Some FTP utilities use ASCII mode by default, which will corrupt the installation file. 3. Verify the integrity of the downloaded .tar.gz file by using a file verification tool such as md5sum, which is included with the Linux installation. If you are using md5sum, execute the following command: md5sum -c ssim_r4.6_SecurityPatch9-4.tar.gz.md5 NOTE: Both the .tar.gz and .md5 files must be present in the same directory for md5sum to execute correctly. For more information on md5sum, see the Linux man pages. 4. Unpack the Security Patch by executing the following command: tar -xvzf ssim_r4.6_SecurityPatch9-4.tar.gz 5. Change the directory to the Security Patch directory by executing the following command: cd SecurityPatch9 6. Execute the following command: sh install.sh Note: The installer automatically stops and restarts services as necessary and restarts the server when done. The SSIM installation history file will be updated at /etc/ssim-history.
