Using the ad-hoc data mining capabilities of IT Analytics we will show you how to build a report that displays the breakdown of Assets by Status and Type.
- Launch the Altiris Console by double clicking the Altiris Console 6.5 shortcut on the desktop.
- Click the Reports menu item and select IT Analytics.
- Expand the Pivot Tables folder.
- Select the Asset Cube.
- Click anywhere in the PivotTable window to display the Field List. Clicking on the Field List button in the toolbar will also cause the field list to be displayed.
- Drag and drop the Asset Count measure into the Totals pane:
- Drag and drop the Asset Type attribute into the Rows pane:
- Drag and drop the Asset Status attribute into the Columns pane:
Now that we have built our initial view to see the breakdown of Assets by Status and Type, we will expand upon this view by bringing in more information and adding filtering capabilities.
- Click the dropdown icon next to Asset Status to view all of the available statuses. Uncheck All and check Active, Disposed, and In Stock, and click the OK button.
- Drag and drop the Manufacturer attribute immediately to the right of the Asset Type field. This will insert the Manufacturer attribute as a sub level to the Asset Type attribute.
- Clicking the plus sign next to Computer will expand to display the breakdown of Manufacturers for the Computer Asset Type:
- Drag and drop the Model attribute immediately to the right of the Manufacturer attribute. Clicking the plus sign next to a Manufacturer will expand to display the model breakdown for that Manufacturer.
- Right click on the Asset Count field to enable sorting and other features:
- Enable filtering by dragging and dropping the Cost Center Name, Department Name and Location Name attributes into the Filter pane as shown below. This will allow the report to be filtered by any combination of values in those attributes.
- Finally you can save this report by clicking the save icon in the toolbar.
- Select the "Save as new view" radio button and name it appropriately.
- You may also check the "Available to all users" checkbox in the event that you would like this report to be available to all users. Leaving this unchecked will make this a private view only available to you.
- Refresh the Altiris Console by clicking the refresh button in the Browser. This will bring you back to the initial Asset Cube screen.
- To open the view you just saved click the open folder icon in the toolbar and select the report you just created in the dropdown list. Note that the report is loaded exactly as you left it.
