I recently had the urgent need to rebuild the index on my Journal Vault EV Mailbox as it kept failing, I also had migration to secondary storage setup to tape. I was in the aweful position to take over some one elses implementation of EV and the tapes for files migrated via migration were lost. This left me with the need to use the EVSVR tool. With regards to seeing the progress of EVSVR there isn't a way to tell how far through its running at as no progess/status indicator is ...

Hi, This came while dealing with one of the customer's requirement. If a user has a PST with 9 years worth of emails in it and we only want to import the mail items no older then say 3 or 6 years to reduce the amount of mail INITIALLY imported in the the Vault. There isnt any solution for this requirement as of now in EV. Yes we can increase the performance of import using few tweaks. It would be great if the PST importer could understand the ...

We are standardizing on Surface RT as our business tablets and have heard that Outlook RT will be coming sometime this year (2013) for Windows RT. Our primary need is to have the evault plugin available for this asap. I don't know if ya'll can get access to it as developers, but it would be a huge asset for us and I am sure many business users. Thanks Doug Glasgow

Update Retention Category on Existing Archived Items

Hello This idea is in reference to following post/forum we were having today: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/change-retention-category-already-archived-items Problem Statement: If we change retention category on particular folder in user mailbox (suppose inbox), the new retention is only applied on newly archived items. To stamp existing items with new retention category we've to either: Change existing retention category itself, but we cannot do that because we want ...

Enterprise Vault EVSVR Incremental Scan

Hello,   My organisation has a specific requirement to incrementally control the size of EVSVR Repair and Verify DatabaseReferences and DatabaseLinkages operations.   This is because we are already defining our scans down to the Vault Store Partition level and still the scans take months to complete. Storage and Database access has been sped up substantially, but we simply cant get the scan running fast enough. The scans will never complete as the servers or EVSVR crash before the ...

Customer of mine is using very often manual archiving, when he select multiple emails for archiving outlook is freezing for more than two minutes, a support case was opened for that and the conclusion is that this is a normal behavior. His enhancement request is now to have a progress bar to show the user that outlook is still working, in the same manner we have one when we retrieve an archived item.

Hi, As you all know, from EV2007 onwards there is a feature called "Enable recovery of user deleted items" - with the number of days before the items are permanently deleted: When users delete their emails from their archives the items are marked for deletions and the indexed items are deleted so that they are not available via Search or Archive Explorer. The deleted items will then be in a 'Dumpster' of the archive in the Deleted Items tab of the user's ...

The Ability To Disable EV Shortcuts Deletion Prompts

Hi, When the Outlook Behaviour - Shortcut Deletion in the Exchange Desktop Policy is set to Both Deleted: When a user deletes an EV Shortcut or a folder contains EV Shortcuts via Outlook they get the following: EV Shortcut A folder conatins EV Shortcut(s) If they use OWA then the warnings are more or less the same. I understand that there are good reasons for the warnings above because when Yes is clicked it performs a hard delete, deleting the EV shortcuts in the ...

Have the Outlook Add-in work with multiple Exchange accounts no matter which are enabled for archiving

Currently the PRIMARY Exchange account has to be EV enabled, or the user will get a pop-up telling them that the EV Outlook Add-in was disabled because the primary Exchange isn’t EV enabled. This is a pain for end-users.  It would be a good idea to enable the EV Outlook Add-in regardless of which Exchange account(s) were enabled.  I realise it might get complicated if different Exchange accounts are handled by different EV environments.
