Ardence Announces Upcoming Release of Ardence 3.5; Altiris Protect Integration
Ardence has just announced its scheduled (December 8) release of Ardence 3.5. This new version provides significant new capabilities, including support for Linux clients; general performance optimizations; and, through integration with Altiris Protect 1.1, the ability to enable persistent user changes to Ardence Virtual Disks.
You hear a lot about "virtualization" these days. The fact is almost everyone is doing virtualization in a different way, at a different level on the technology stack. And different types of virtualization are often complementary. Ardence (www.ardence.com), for instance, virtualizes disk drives at the hardware level, allowing a traditional fat client experience on more manageable, diskless workstations. They recommend Altiris virtualization technology to provide the user-specific work environment. Read about their latest release here.
Here's the Juice on the Altiris integration:
Ardence 3.5 includes scripting that, combined with simple instructions, enables integration of Altiris Protect 1.1 with a Ardence virtual disk, providing a personalized environment for users.
Ardence 3.5 includes a script that allows Altiris Protect to create a session file. Any information that is normally written to an Ardence write cache is sent to an Altiris Protect session file that resides on a server. As a user logs in, the changes are merged with the underlying virtual disk to provide a customized virtual disk drive.
When deploying a Ardence virtual disk, Ardence takes advantage of several tools to provide customization and personalization. Scripting, roaming profiles, and client personalization features all enable a shared virtual disk to apply client or user specific settings for greater usability.
Altiris product manager Scott Jones confirms that, "Ardence is integrated with Protect today and we are working with them to better integrate with both Protect and SVS."
