Available log files for Mobile Management troubleshooting

A collection of log files are available which allow some troubleshooting. These files are not central located but available on the mobile devices or Server where a component of SMM is installed.

nlog folder:

This folder directory is:

                \Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Mobile Management\Data\nlog

Typical log files located in that folder:

  • iosservices_<date>.txt
  • iosws_<date>.txt
  • enrollment_<date>.txt
  • NT_APNS_FB_<date>.txt
  • NT_APNS_PUSH_<date>.txt
  • NT_Demand_<date>.txt
  • NT_Feedback_<date>.txt
  • NT_Inventory_<date>.txt
  • NT_Policy_<date>.txt
  • NT_GCM_<date>.txt
  • And more…

SMP Server log file:

The a.log file on the SMP server contains information about the progress of Mobile Management tasks.

Windows log files:

The Microsoft OS and there installed Server Features providing useful information:

- IIS logs (Where the MDM service is running)
- Windows Event Logs
- System Information (run msinfo32) -> Windows Error Reporting

iOS device log:

Detailed information could be gathered from the iOS device itself.
Use the iPhone Configuration Utility to gather the iOS Log from the device.

Install it on one machine and wire your iOS to it.
In the opened Utility select the device at the left hand site.
Next select the Console tab at the top right corner.
Reproduce the issue behavior.
Create a log file by "Save the Console as...".

Windows Mobile:

For this platform the Athena.log and AppUpdate.log.txt file are available to check

  • Last received task from server
  • Last response to server
  • Error code if rollout has failed.

Android Device:

For this platform the agent.log is available to check

  • Last received task from server
  • Last response to server
  • Error code if rollout has failed.
