Please note there is an Altiris Barcode Solution 6.7 Hotfix 41762 that is recommended to be installed as well.
Once Barcode Solution 6.7 and recommended Hotfix 41762 is installed and configured properly. You will need to install Barcode Manager on a host computer and Barcoder on the Barcode device. Please see BarCode Manager and Barcoder Install document for a detailed description. These programs must be installed before you can start uploading and downloading Assets.
Setting-up a New Synchronization Profile:
- From the Altiris Console, click the Configuration tab.
- In the left pane, navigate to Configuration > Solutions Settings > Assets and Inventory > Barcode Solution > Synchronization Profiles.
- Right Click on the Synchronization Profiles folder; New > Synchronization Profile.
- Once the profile is created right click on “New Synchronization Profile” and select rename so that you can name your profiles accordingly.
Configure New Synchronization Profile:
- From the Altiris Console, click the Configuration tab.
- In the left pane, navigate to Configuration > Solutions Settings > Assets and Inventory > Barcode Solution > Synchronization Profiles.
- Select a synchronization profile that you want to configure.
- In the Collections tab within the Synchronization profile you are using, select the supporting resources that will be sent to the synchronization profile. This section lets you narrow the amount of data that is sent to a synchronization profile.
Note: Altiris recommends that you select only the data that the synchronization profile needs when performing the scans. Selecting more than is needed lengthens the synchronization time as well as the scrolling time when the synchronization profile is using Barcoder.- In Users (in selected Department(s)), click the Select a Department link to select the user resources (by department) to be sent to the barcode device.
- In Departments, click the Select a Department link to select the department resources to be sent to the barcode device.
- In Cost Centers, click the Select a Cost Center link to select the cost center resources to be sent to the barcode device.
- In Locations, click the Select a Location link to select the location resources to be sent to the barcode device.
- In All resources in these collections, click the Select a Collection link to select the collections whose resources you want sent to the barcode device.
- In the DataClasses tab, select the dataclasses that you want included in the download to the barcode device.
- In the Available Functions tab, select the menu items that will be accessible on the barcode scanner. Various menu items are available. To save time and bandwidth, select only those menu items that the users in the synchronization profile need.
- In the Resources tab, allow users to add additional resources to this download profile if you want users to be able to add more resources as needed.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
Note: This is what it looks like when you are prompted on the device for a profile:
Granting Permissions to a Synchronization Profile:
Synchronization profiles can be used by one or more users. This is useful if you have more than one user with the same job function who needs to have access to the same asset information. You can set up synchronization profiles so that multiple users can use a single profile or one user can use multiple profiles.
- To grant permissions and add users to profiles do this, right-click on the synchronization profile, and select Properties. Then select the Security tab and assign the appropriate permissions by adding security roles and or specific users.

Permissions -- great article
This article is great!
We did all of this, but forgot the permissions.
The permissions need to be set under the (on the 6.5 console) View > Configuration > Solution Settings > Barcode Solution folder. There is a Synchronization Profiles folder that will hold all of your custom profiles. You can set permissions on each profile individually or on the entire folder, up to you.
Good luck and again, great article!!!
