Creating exceptions in Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) 10.x

This document describes how to configure folder, file and extensions exclusions on SAV 10.x servers and clients. Before making any exceptions, ensure that those file are really safe.

 

Folder exclusions on servers:

Centrally from the Symantec System Center (SSC) console:

  • Open SSC and unlock the Server Group.
  • Right click on the primary server -> All tasks -> Symantec AntiVirus -> Server Auto-Protect Options
  • Select Exclude selected files and folders and click on Exclusions button.
  • Click on Files/Folders button and check the folders which need to be excluded.
  • Confirm with OK

Locally from Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) interface:

  • Open SAV interface and enter the credentials
  • On the left side, or in the menu select Configure -> File System Auto-Protect
  • Check Exclude selected files and folders and click on Exclusions button
  • Click on Files/Folders and check the required folder or folders
  • Confirm with OK

 

Folders exclusions on clients:

Centrally from the SSC console:

  • Open SSC and unlock the Server Group
  • Right click on the primary server -> All tasks -> Symantec AntiVirus -> Client Auto-Protect Options
  • Select Exclude selected files and folders, lock the padlock:

 

  • Click on Exclusions button.
  • Click on Folders button and enter the path names of the folders which need to be excluded:

 

  • Confirm with OK

Locally from SAV interface:

  • Open SAV interface
  • On the left side, or in the menu select Configure -> File System Auto-Protect
  • Check Exclude selected files and folders and click on Exclusions button
  • Click on Files/Folders and check the required folder or folders
  • Confirm with OK

 

Files exclusions:

Files exclusions cannot be configured centrally from the SSC. You can configure them only locally from the Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) interface.

  • Open SAV interface on client or server
  • On the left side, or in the menu select Configure -> File System Auto-Protect
  • Check Exclude selected files and folders and click on Exclusions button
  • Click on Files/Folders and check the required file or files
  • Confirm with OK

 

Extensions exclusions on servers:
