Deploy an Altiris Job on Each PC, One by One (DS6.9)

Mar 03, 2011 05:34 PM

Maybe this tip is already known, but I will give it to you anyway.

The fact :

We have a job that retrieve monitor info via WMI and writes its results in a csv file. We have to deploy it on approximatively 1300 workstations.

The problem :

The csv cannot write the info as quickly as the info is retrieved and some entries are missing... not good at all.

The solution :

Checking the box "Planifier par groupe de 1 ordinateurs à 1 minute(s) d'intervalle" will allow our job to execute each minute on each PC one by one. Then the csv has enough time to write each line stresslessly ;-)

Hope it will be helpful, even if it's a basic, standard option; I didn't care about until today. Maybe I'm not alone :-D

Best regards.

Nice Tip man! I hadn't ever needed to do that, but it is a good tip.

We can get this kind of problem, when deploy some packages, writing a useless INI file, on a fileshare !

This can be a tricky thing, to see a stupid MSI, writing the same flag all the same already there, from each workstations, and no option to remove this... (from SYBEL, PRO concept... to give publicity this kind of so lovely bad packaged applications...)

Another feature so nice from DS 6.9, not sure able to handle using DS 7.1 :(
