This component allows you to put a drop-down box on your page. Drop-down boxes allow users to select one item from a list of multiple options.

Definition of component input value or values
The input of this component may be of any data type, simple or complex. When a complex data type is selected, a specific field must be chosen to be used by the component display for selection. If the variable selected for "Output Data" has been initialized upstream of this form and the value is valid, this component will load with the value of that variable on form load.
Definition of component output value or values
The output value of this component is of whatever data type is selected for this component. The output is a single simple or complex value.

Select the data type to be used by this component. |
| Display Value Source |
If the Data Type of this component is a complex data type, the source of the display value must be selected. This can be set statically using the "Field" option, or via an evaluation model by selecting "Model". |
| Display Field |
Select the field you want displayed to the user in the drop down box on the form. The options available in this box will be valid pieces of the complex data type that was chosen for this component.

Configure the evaluation model that will be used to determine the field that will populate the dropdown list.

| Items |
These are the items that will be loaded into the dropdown list. The items must match the data type selected. Pieces of a complex data type may be used if the piece matches the data type. Items may be loaded from existing process variables, static values, single or multiple mapping, the output of a process model, or a combination of these selections. |
| Selected Item |
The item set here will be the default selected item in the dropdown list at form load. If the variable set as "Output Data" is initialized and has a valid value upstream of this form, this option is ignored and the variable value is selected on the form. |
| Always Use Selected Item |
When this option is selected, the item configured as the "Selected Item" will always be the default selected item on form load. This does not affect the value of the variable after the form posts, only the default configuration of this component on form load. |
| Output Data |
The output of this component will be a single value variable of the data type that was chosen for this component. |
Use case
Drop-down boxes allow users to easily select one from amongst many choices. It also consolidates choices into a small box instead of taking up valuable space resources (like a list).
