In this article I describe What SMART is and what it does.

The second Article will describe you how to install DVS SMART and how to configure it.

The third Article will explain you how to Build your SWV repository

The Fourth Article will help you install and configure DVS User Admin.

With DVS SMART and DVS User Admin you have your own application distribution mechanism based on Active Directory groups.

SMART enables administrators to build Templates for end Users based on Active Directory Permissions enabling users to touch their software centralised. It combines Trinket and the SVS Logonhook to a single managed solution.

SVS and/or SWV comes with a user application that can be used to manage applications. End users that are member of the administrators or powerusers groups can start the application and can manage their applications without administrators intervention. In various cases this si not the way company's want to go. It enables endusers to use all applications on the system and it does not provide user license control. Also the export functionality is not always what company's want.

Various companies already saw their packaged applications leaving the company by using the export functionality of SWV.

DVS SMART is started at end user logon and it reads the application lists created by the administrator. All actions defined in that list are performed.

Actions available are:

  • Hide
  • Activate
  • De-Activate
  • Import
  • Reset
  • Delete

Hide: When the option Hide is selected, an application can be available for end users but it will not show-up in the Smart taskbar on the end users client. With this option enabled you can deny users from performing actions like de-activate on that specific applications

Activate: When Activate is enabled, the application will be automatically activated when the end user logson.

De-Activate: De-activate de-activates the application when the end user logson. This is helpful when applications are set autoactivate.

Import: Import imports the application on the background when the application needs to be available. It can best be compared with streaming, except that it needs to be imported 100% before the end user can start using the application. When a applications is set to activate and import, import will be done and then the application will be activated at once.

Reset: Reset brings the VSA layer back to it's original state.

Delete: When Delete is used, the layer will be completely removed from the end users computer.

All functionality is available in the free for home and personal version of the DVS User Admin. If you want to use the DVS User Admin in your company, contact me for pricing.
