Enabling Probe Participation

Oct 25, 2010 07:36 PM

Hello,

In the fight of spam war Symantec Probe Network is much important technology to stay one step ahead of spammers.

I can try to explain the workflow of Probe Participation in a few words.

Spammers send spams to our company's invalid recipients then Brightmail get these mails and send to Symantec Probe Network. Then these mails reviewed specially and turn back our Brightmails as new signatures for that spam content.

Now, How can we enable Probe Participation?

Actually enabling Probe Participation is really simple as one click but the important thing is how we can add our Probe Accounts.

By the way you access this menu from top Spam menu and after that you can see the Probe Accounts link under the settings that you can see it on left menu.

We may use our invalid recipients on our company. Important thing is these accounts still may getting emails and spam from outer space.

We can add our invalid recipients with 3 type of methods as you can see below.

- Manual Add: In this method you can manually enter the email addresses to the list.

- Upload from File: In this method you can upload a text file that contains email address list.

- From Invalid Recipient: In this method you need first configure Directory Integration and Invalid Recipient option, after that you can choose your    invalid recipients that Brightmail captured before with Directory Integration.

For a best practice from me if you're using Directory Integration don't try to use methods except Invalid Recipient option. This one is the easiest and much truth accounts grabbed by Brightmail.

No any additional configuration needs for that. For much accuracy feel free to adding more accounts.

Trust me, you can see the benefits of Probe Participation shortly after you enabled.

Regards,
