Altiris Inventory Solution provides a powerful platform for collecting detailed hardware and software information throughout an enterprise. While the product boasts more than 160 out-of-the-box web reports, the solution's architecture also provides the ability to easily create customer-defined web reports and to have the default inventory scan extended to collect entirely new datasets. Simple XML configuration files can tell Altiris Inventory Solution to look for new information from a variety of sources including Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).

Dell's OpenManage Client Instrumentation (OMCI) software can also be installed on Dell client hardware to improve overall system manageability. One of OMCI's key benefits is the fact that it publishes extensive Dell-specific hardware information via WMI object properties.

Customers using both Altiris Inventory Solution and Dell OMCI can leverage the two together simply by extending the Altiris inventory scan to collect OMCI-published data. Both Altiris Inventory Solution and Dell OpenManage Client Instrumentation (OMCI) offer Dell customers significant systems management benefits when used independently. If leveraged together however, significant manageability gains can be realized.

This white paper covers the benefits, requirements, and sample resources to demonstrate these integration capabilities, including more than 35 new web reports and access to more than 90 new Dell-specific hardware values.
