I have already spent more than an hour trying to figure out if my notification for upgrade to 12.1 gives me SBE or Enterprise.

You guys have GOT to straighten out your nomenclatures.  Whenever I find references in support to version numbers, they use something COMPLETELY different from what I see in Help About.  I have been in Information Technology for twenty years and this is MESSED UP.

About the license, I still comfused. As long as I know license only for SEPM nor for SEP, am I right?

Hi,

I would like to clear your doubt.

Licenses are for both SEPM and SEP clients.

Major difference is in Small Business Edition SEPM & SEP clients will stop receiving definitions from all sources (i.e LUA, Symantec liveupdate server) if license expired.

In Enterprise Edition SEPM and SEP clients will not stop receiving definitions even if license expired.(But enough barriers are placed to track same)

  • In both the EE & SBE versions clients are having same  features so if you go to Client interface-->Help--> About you can find the product version number same for both EE clients & SBE Clients
  • Difference is on the Manager application SEPM EE 12.1 has advance features and lot of options with advance configuration But in SEPM SBE 12.1 you cannot see all the advance settings. since its a limited one.

  • Simple example to find out the difference of SEPM EE 12.1 & SEPM SBE 12.1
  • If you open the SEPM SBE 12.1 Manager console-->on the left hand side blue pane-->you can find the computers tab. But in SEPM EE 12.1 its Clients tab not Computers Tab.

Hi,

SONAR replaces the TruScan technology to identify malicious behavior of unknown threats using heuristics and reputation data. While TruScan runs on a schedule, SONAR runs at all times.

Check this article as well.

What's new in version 12.1

Hi Chetan,

On SEPM SBE is there an option for the client to get the update from SEPM server instead of directly connecting to Live Update server of Symantec?

I cannot find this comparison in your table, is it possbile for you to add a comparison in depth between the 2 vesion similar to what I have mention above?

So far only general information are included, if you can include those real time differences that IT personnel could encounter from clients then it would be very helpful.

Don't get the wrong idea your table is very informative, it is just that only general information is included.

Thanks,

Efren Carlos

I have a question on SEP SBE: does it allow to centrally deploy agents using .msi install packages?

Hi,

1. Is there a way to check the client its SBE or EE.

--> When you will go to modify features you will see the differences.

Check these articles:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-modify-installed-features-individual-client-enterprise-edition

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-modify-installed-features-individual-client-small-business-edition

Also there are few differences I will let you know.

2. Can a SBE client report to a EE manager. and Vice versa.

--> Not possible.

3. Is there any registery key which specifies the SEP client as SBE or EE?

--> I will have to check more on this.
