This component may be used to retrieve an associated serial number for an SMP asset. This component differs from the "Get Serial Number For Asset By Id Component" in that this component's asset input requires the entire asset complex data type container.
This component must connect to the SMP platform to retrieve serial number data. This is most easily accomplished by using a "Create SMP Credentials" component upstream of the "Get Serial Number For Asset Component". The default input values (Global.NotificationServer, Global.NSUsesHTTPS, and Global.NSAuthenticationToken) will then be given the values configured in the Workflow Credentials Manager for the default NS connection.
The input value "asset" requires the data type listed in the "Input values" table above. This data can be obtained by using components upstream such as "Get Resource for SMP" (configured with the Resource Type of "Asset"). The results of this component will be properly structured to present as a valid datatype to the input of the "Get Serial Number" component.
The "Method Can Return Null" value determines whether a "null" value is an acceptable output of this component.
