How Do I Make a Report Open in a New Window When I Right-click It?
I think it's safe to say that one of the more common report requests we as administrators get from our users has to be the Add/Remove Programs reports located under Reports > Assets and Inventory > Inventory > Windows > Software/Applications > Add/Remove Programs > Count of Distinct Add/Remove Programs.
One of the more frustrating parts of using this report, however, has been that getting down to the detailed level of which workstations have specific pieces of software installed.
Because every time you go to the detailed list window, you can't just click the back button.
The best way to solve this problem in any report is to have your results open in a new window.
There is an easy and quick way to make this happen:
- Clone the specific report you're attempting to make the change on. (Always a good practice, by the way)
- Click the 'Edit this Report' link.
You'll note there are two primary sections here: Queries and Global Parameters.
We'll want to focus on the Queries - they have more icons next to them.
It's actually those icons we want to focus our attention on. More specifically - the third icon, with the magnifying glass over a table.
- Click on the Drilldown configuration icon ( third from the left).
That will open the Drilldown configuration screen.
- Here we simply want to change our option from:
Opening Drilldown in Current Window to
Opening Drilldown in NEW window.
- Click OK.
- Click Save.
Now, re-running say that add/remove programs report, I can get the detailed list of the specific users of version 1.x of a program, close it, and get the list of version 2.x users right away.

nice tip
