Managing the "31 December 2009" problem in MultiLocation networks. [usage of LUA]
Updated: 13 Jan 2010 | 1 comment
This entry treats the problem where some computers[laptops] are used outside of LAN networks.
I faced the problem that one of my customers struggled the issue with machines which from time to time are used outside the corporate network.
LU policy allows them to use Live Update server when they are outside and SEPM when they are connected to Corporate network.
As we know new definitions will not be updated from SEPM, because SEP client will have newer date than definitions date on SEPM.
Why?: SEP client when connected to LU server is patched and able to download definitions with proper date.
To solve this problem, until patch will be applied to SEPManagers, the best solution is to create Virtual machine where we will install Live Update Administrator.
LUA:
Go to:
1. Configure[Tab] -> My Symantec Products -> Add New Products[Button] : add Symantec Endpoint Protection and proper languages
2. Download & Distribute [Tab] -> Add Download [Button] ->
->
Add[Button]
Chose the product and press Add [Button]
Create a schedule
3 .Download & Distribute [Tab] -> Add Download [Button] ->
->
Add Distribution [Button]
...
Add[Button]
Chose the product and press Add [Button]
Create a schedule
4. Distribution Centers -> copy exact address/url for "Default Production Distribution Center" [example: w2k3_LUA:7070/clu-prod]
SEPM:
In SEPM You need to reconfigure Server Settings
After SEP clients will update policy they will use Local LU mirror do download proper definitions.
NOTE: If You do not have any other product of symantec which You would like to update locally and SEPM is sufficient content updater, use only SEPM after your version will be patched.
