Ghost Solution Suite

Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 (Ghost version 11.5.1.2266) added support for Windows 7 and WIndows Server 2008 R2. If you plan on migrating your Ghost Console to a machine running of of those operating systems, or would like to upgrade the computer that it is on, here are the directions:

1. Download the latest version of Ghost (Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 or later) from https://fileconnect.symantec.com
2. Update current installation to newest build if it is not updated already.
3. Browse to C:\Program Files\Symantec\Ghost\scripts and double-click backupdb.wsf; ignore error message. This will create a backup of the Ghost database in My Documents\GSSBackup.
4. Copy these items to a safe location:
   • GSSBackup folder from My Documents
   • All image files resident on this machine(note file locations)
   • Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 installation files
5. If you are moving to a separate machine, copy those files to that machine; if you are reformatting the current machine and installing the new operating system, do that.
6. Install Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 from downloaded files.
7. Run the Restore Latest Backup utility from the GSSBackup folder.
8. Either restore the image files to the same location as they were in the previous operating system, or edit the Image Location in the Ghost Console.

These steps should be enough to get you migrated. It is recommended that the new machine has the same machine name as the old. It is also a good idea, if you are planning on reformatting your current machine and installing the new operating system, that you test the installation/restore on another machine before you make any changes to the original.
