How to Install Hidden Partition to Redhat Enterprise Servers

May 01, 2009 01:12 PM

This is a process I had to follow to get a hidden partition to work with RHEL servers. This can work with LVM and ext3 partitions.

  1. create a hidden partition installer with boot disk creator (in the partition installer choose the option of Linux ISO )
  2. burn the ISO to a cd and boot off that CD.

  3. The cd will ask to install the hidden partition and will delete any other partitions (say yes to all these prompts)

  4. Boot of the RHEL install cd and choose custom partitioning during the setup process.

  5. On the next screen keep the ext2 partition and setup your LVM or ext3 partitions.
  6. Go through the rest of the install like normal.
  7. After the install and the post install is done boot off of the hidden partition installer again and re-installed the hidden partition. This will repair the mbr so that the ability to boot to the hidden partition and the redhat partitions is available.
