Resolution for Forms and Form Components Resizing in WIndows 7

Jun 17, 2010 02:51 PM

I've come across an interesting bug with Workflow 7.0 and Windows 7.  This may also be an issue with Workflow 6.5 and Windows 7 as well, but I have not been able to test it.

Problem

When viewing a form via the FormBuilder component in a WebForm or Workflow project, the form appears to zoom in when it is opened and continue to zoom in further for each subsequent open.  Although it appears that the form is zooming in, the actual size of the form and the components (text boxes, labels, buttons, dropdowns, etc) on the form are increasing in size (ie. from 800x600 to 1000x750).  This process repeats itself every time a form is opened.  I initially believed that this bug only affected the way the forms were displayed in Workflow and not in deployments, but my experience with this was that the issue propagated all the way through to the deployment.

Solution

The workaround is to change your display settings in Windows 7.  By default, Windows 7 sets your display settings to display screen elements at 125% their normal size.  To change this to 100%, follow the directions below:

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select "Personalize"

  2. Click "Display" in the bottom left corner

  3. Select the "Smaller - 100%" radio button item

  4. Click "Apply"  NOTE: You will be informed that "You must log off your computer to apply these changes"

  5. Save all your work and close all programs

  6. Click the "Log off now" button

  7. If all programs were not closed you will be presented with the screen below.  Click "Force log off" to continue, but make sure you have saved ALL of your work!
