Question/Issue:
There is a new feature on SEP RU6 that the user can log into Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager through Web Access:
As you can see from the screenshot, you can access the SEPM Web Console, SPC and download and install SEPM remote JAVA console.
After you choose to launch Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Web Console, there will be different security alert on IE7/IE8 on different Operating System.
Cause:
The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Web Console is based on a AjaxSwing that maps the SEPM’s console into a web one. This web console only support IE7 and IE8.
There are six tabs on SEPM console. The first three (Home, Monitors and Reports) are based on SEPM’s reporting component. They use http for the connection. The other three (Policies, Clients and Admin) are using https for the connection. The behaviors on IE7 and IE8 will be a little different on this situation.
Solution:
· You run IE7 on Windows XP:
There will be a security alert like this:
You need to choose ‘Yes’.
· You run IE8 on Windows XP:
There will be a security alert like this:
· You run IE7 on Windows Server 2003:
You need to disable the ‘Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration’:
1. From Windows Start Menu, choose to run ‘Control Panel’.
2. Launch ‘Add or Remove Programs’.
3. Select ‘Add/Remove Windows Components’, un-check the option ‘Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration’.
4. Click Next and Finish.
When you launch IE7 to open the SEPM Web Console, there will be same security alert on Windows XP, choose ‘Yes’.
· You run IE8 on Windows Server 2003:
The same steps to uninstall the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration, then you will encounter the same security alert on IE8 on Windows XP, choose ‘No’.
· Sometimes, you may encounter a display error on Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Web Console as below:
You need to:
1. Add the http://<SPEM_IP>:9090/symantec.jsp into IE’s trusted site.
2. Enable ActiveX Control for IE.
