As healthcare providers automate the practice of healthcare and sharing of data, protecting the privacy of patient information and securing IT infrastructures is becoming increasingly challenging. The outside world has changed, the way healthcare is delivered has changed, the way technology is delivered has changed - - we all need to think about security very differently than we did even 3 years ago.
In this ever-changing threat landscape, healthcare organizations need to secure protected health information and critical systems as they support operational requirements for providing clinicians with continuous access to information. This likely includes mobile devices, both those owned by the corporation and personal devices. Additionally, cloud computing is becoming a reality in healthcare in a number of varieties to meet a variety of needs. Protecting the data in these new ‘data delivery’ models can be done but not the “same old way” we’ve been doing it.
