SVS By Any Other Name
As the Sr. Product Manager for SVS, I can assure you that erikw's article is largely correct in describing the next release of SVS. Key partners like Erik have been testing with a pre-beta version for some time. Although erikw's post hit a little early, it is true that this release will rename SVS to Symantec Workspace Virtualization. As we've worked together we know that many of you are loyal to SVS as you have worked with it over the last months and years. Your familiarity through your training and deployments has made SVS as comfortable as a pair of warm slippers.
We debated changing the name for some time. We decided that it is important for the name to reflect that it is one aspect of Symantec's strategy concerning endpoint virtualization and as such, needed to reflect that in the name. As other products are introduced in the coming months, you'll see how they all fit together into a cohesive, broad product line to address your needs for the entire process of software development & packaging, solution delivery, and environment personalization. Additionally, 'software virtualization' infers the product is limited to applications. One differentiator between Symantec's product and others is the ability to virtualize information as well. We wanted a name that reflected the broader capabilities of the product. We hope SWV is a warmer pair of slippers.
I am pleased with the hard work, innovation, and teamwork that is going into the last stages of this release. Every group from the architects, developers, quality assurance personnel, doc writers, and others have all stepped up and worked to take SVS to the next level. Today we're working with a committed set of customers to validate the new features and ensure they solve the problems they are designed to solve.
Finally, let me anticipate your next question. When will this be available? Was I right? As you know, the best way to release software is when customers tell you they are ready to deploy it. We're getting close. Stay tuned.

Great, we are on the start...
I love your sentence "the best way to release software is when customers tell you they are ready to deploy it". Please don't make another "kity hawk" all the same, that is a pretty late, and still not there ;-) ~~~PaKo

on that note
On that note, we are ready to deploy SVS, or SWV on our 64 bit computers... I didn't see anything about that in the "release notes".
No 64 bit
Yet
why change something so good?
Why do software companies insist on changing things that are working? Jumping to a different name and skipping 4 major versions is only going to confuse people.
The extra functionality sounds great. I just hope it has the same quality as SVS version 2. I would much rather have a simple application that works well, than an application packed full of features, only half of which working properly. But that's what marketing people get paid for I suppose.
Please, Symantec, don't ruin something good...
Not ruining! Yet?
The new version is chnaging it's name to fit in the Symantec suite. It will not chnage.
i have the newest version in my toy garden and i like the new additions.
It still is very simple and very easy to use, so i do not believe it will ruin anything. Yet?
With the take over of N-suite we never know what is going to happen.
Most important i think is that they keep it for fee for home and personal use.
