Notification Server 7 or the Symantec Management Platform(SMP) [as it is now called] has a new stand-alone program for installation, the Symantec Installation Manager (SIM). Consequently the Symante Management Platform User’s Guide does not contain installation information for the SMP. It does refer to the Symantec Management Platform Installation Guide but this document seems a bit hard to find. So I have created some links here. The Symantec Management Platform Installation Guide gives the OS and hardware requirements for installing SMP 7. SIM itself is a pretty nice feature of SMP 7. It is more robust than the NS 6 installation mechanism and can do nice things like create an off-line installer for servers which are not able to connect to the internet.. This installer will contain all of the files for all of the solutions which are selected in SIM. It doesn't however contain most files which are pre-requisites like IIS or SQL simply because of licensing difficulties for these things. SM is new and so has had some issues, but in general it is much better than what we had in NS 6 and it is getting continual attention to make it even better.
