Hello, I have found that this number is indicating the last day a FULL backup has been made. Because we run on SQL2008, our DBA's are performing a full once a week, and then a differential every evening. Logfiles are backed up every 15 minutes (which shows correctly) Is it possible to take differentials in account? It spooked me to see no backups had been made of the databases, but actually wer're save. Thanks Gertjan Alink

I have created a custom Schedule report for  job Summary. When the scheduled job runs everyday it sends the report in the email. The format of the report is in .htm format. It would be nice to  be able to select the format type of the report that comes in the email. For example in pdf format. Currently, our blackberries can't open htm files but we can pdf files.   i know the same issue or idea is raised by few other people also. Please look into reporting ...

We regularly notice that jobs can't be cancelled, unless we stop all services on Master and Media servers (BPDOWN) Why can't jobs be cancelled no matter what, when an administrator cancels the job in the Netbackup GUI?

In Da you do not have the ability to delete a scheduled search. It would be nice to be able to delete scheduled searches from DA so searches no longer needed can be wiped out to keep the Environment clean

Currently Netbackup on AIX does not support kerberos authentication when login through the Java GUI. This will eliminate the need for creating standard AIX users on NBU servers. Users could use their existing user accounts (for e.g from MS Active Directory) to log on to Netbackup Console.

Currently the only way to make changes to NetBackup Vault profiles is through the GUI.  It would be great if there was a command-line to add/modify/delete Vault profiles.

My biggest issue with Netbackup, coming from HP Data Protector, is the default Activity Monitor view is job/detail level.  If I am backing up a SQL Server that has 40 databases on it, I see a job for each Database and one for the Parent.  This means I see 41 entries in Activity Monitor - Wouldn't it be cleaner to have a (+) plus sign next to the Parent job?  If my SQL Server backup is perfectly successful, then I should see (1) Job that is Green for Successful.  If ...

We would like to be able alert on 'hung jobs' in NOM for DSSU destaging jobs, unfortunately you can't. Although dssu destaging isn't a configurable policy as such, for the purpose of Activity Monitor etc it is, and in light of a recent highlighted bug in NOM 6.5.3 http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/327773.htm it would be nice to trap the problem.

In v4.5 in the admin GUI we could set max tries to zero - to suspend NetBackup scheduling. In v5.x setting to zero via the GUI was deprecated, but the command line could still be used. In v6.5 this feature was removed.  This makes administering NetBackup arduous.  If we're performing any work on the NetBackup master, or SAN or storage (tape/VTL/disk) or performing a site HA/DR failover test - then we now have to de-activate all SLP policies and then also all backup ...

Hi all. One issue we have with users right now with Symmantec Enterprise Vault is when forwarding an email as an attachment. In Outlook 2007, normally when you want to forward an archived email you select the email and click Forward. This works fine in an EV environment. But when you want to send multiple items in the one email as attachments, you have to manually restore the email items before sending. For an admin that's fine, but for an end user it's another step to do. The alternative is ...

It would be nice if when i attached an archived mail item to a new email that it would automatically download the original item to the email and attach it, not attach the stub.

How about creating a third button, or an additional view for Calendar Items in archive explorer? The view would look like an Outlook calendar folder with month, week and day view options, etc.....as opposed to an email folder like it does now. It should also be intelligent enough to show the appointment on the day of the calendar that matches the START DATE of the appointment...not created date, archived date or anything else.

Sometimes we need to eject only full tapes from a tape library and leave  tapes, which still have available space, in a library till they will get full. But currently vault  does not have an option to select full tapes.  It would be nice to have an option to select only full tapes together with a date range selection. I think those option can be mutually exclusive (radio buttons).

Because of  the relative ease of deploying new Virtual Machines, it is quite easy to miss newly installed databases at the time of VM deployment and later on and not install the approriate database backup agenst to properly back them up. Assuming the NBU filesystem agent was installed on all clients, it would be a nice feature if NBU could query the backup catalog on a regular basis for signature files representing database data and program files that indicate the ...

This is a big pet-peeve I have with NetBackup. It is currently extremely difficult to visualize the schedule environment. A few other idea postings here list some interesting problems, but few list a good way to solve it. I have an idea that could help. Under the “Summary of All Policies” create a new “Schedule Visualization” section. Place in a calendar view that can be selected by day , week, month, or year. Also set a pop down java calendar to select whatever day ...

We have few clients with 100+ file systems. Some of these file systems are huge (~1 TB or more). It will be nice to have backup size based algorithm, so the big file systems could be backed up after all smaller file systems. Otherwise some small file system don't have a chance to be backed up at all.  I know that it is possible to create separate policy for big file systems, but we are trying to avoid  manual policy management.

Currently it is possible to deactivate the whole policy and all clients inside that policy will be inactive. But very offten just few clients in a policy need to be deactivated. It will be nice to have a function to deactivate (and activate) a single client or a group of clients in a single multi client policy. That can be done from GUI and from command line like this: bpplinfo -modify -inactive -client <client1>,<client2>,..

I'd like to see the ability to export and import backup policies. The dump ideally would be to a human-readable text format of some kind by default, although the choice of csv, html (for user-visible web-site posting), or pdf would be nice touches. =)  The export needs to contain all information for the policy including STU, SLP, schedules, defined clients, file selections, etc. - everything you'd need to recreate it exactly. The import command should have options to ...

When looking at job details from the Windows Administration Console, the job status window isn't re-sizable. What do people think, would it be handy if it could be re-sized and had some scroll bars? -Sean

In the case of reaching disk capacity on the NBU install volume it's often recommended by support to move the NBU catalog to another volume. The current process can be reviewed in the Admin Guide, it's a very manual process that includes the creation of touch files and has to be done on a per client basis. It would be nice to see this functionality moved into the GUI and writing the locations for each client's image database directory into the EMM database to avoid the usage of ...
