Starting with BackupExec v12.5, the server will attempt to poll the internet to get a Symantec ThreatCon status.  If there is no internet access, or there's a timeout, every day an alert will result saying "The Symantec ThreatCon Level is not up-to-date". Many of us have servers that do not and will not have internet access, and we don't want or care about ThreatCon.  Every single day we get these nagging messages.  Please make it stop!  In general, no ...

In Backup Exec 12.5 ThreatCon functionality is built in. Backup Exec is trying to download a threatcon.zip file every 5 minutes, needed or not, Internet connected or not. Also you get a job warning every 24 hours mentioning the ThreatCon level is not up to date.   In a corporate environment this will flood firewall/proxy logfiles. The only workaround provided so far is to add an entry in the hosts file to point securityresponse.symantec.com to localhost.   If the backup server is ...

It would be nice to have a list of known and confirmed bugs that Symantec support knows with a plan to fix it and maybe voting system (like in ideas) that we may vote what should be fixed first. With a bug there should be also ETA for a fix (in what release it will be fixed). Sometimes there is a known problem and even whitepapers available but only for internal use and it would be handy to be able to seek and reference something when calling support (obviously I'm not expecting that some ...

I have created a custom Schedule report for  job Summary. When the scheduled job runs everyday it sends the report in the email. The format of the report is in .htm format. It would be nice to  be able to select the format type of the report that comes in the email. For example in pdf format. Currently, our blackberries can't open htm files but we can pdf files.   i know the same issue or idea is raised by few other people also. Please look into reporting ...

In prior versions there was an option to shedule according to the days of week.  With this option you could create a schedule where one backup job could run the first week another on the second week and so on.  This made it possible to create backups using different media pools or with other options altered. I'm not sure what version this changed in but the only option you have under 12.5 is "Recurring Week Days".  Now this sounds the same but it doesn't actually ...

This is for case id 281-865-416 were customer wanted to schedule automatic restore's of sql db after the backup is complete to a different server without having to do it manually with BE 12.5. Is this a distant possibility with BE 12.5 or something that we can implement

Hi All, Few of my clients need  a "View-Only" access to backup exec console for security reasons. They are currently using BEXEC 12.5. Questions: a) Is it possible to implement this feature  in BEXEC 12.5 ? b) Can you consider adding this feature in the upcoming release of BEXEC ? Regards Sunder

Of couse, this is the feature that already exist in other software such as TSM Fastback and Acronis. But I think it should also available within BESR and BEWS. Let say that when you submit restore job and the restored files/system suddenly accessible. The blocks that requested by application will be redirected to the backed up copy while the restore job running in background until finish. In case of BESR, after you submit the restore job. The system reboot to Windows system and start working ...

A director of the company wanted copies of all the monthly management accounts for the past 12 months. According to the Symantec engineer, I would have to create 12 separate jobs to restore them in 12 different locations. I would like an option with a singel restore job that would automatically generate appropriate subdirectories for each copy based, perhaps, upon the date and time, ...

It would be nice when download multiple hotfixes , Symantec only restarts the services at the end of applying the last hotfix. Now it takes longer time as it stop and restart with every hot fix.

I would like job histories to be presented in a tabular format, rather than hierarchical.  E.g. server1\c$ 4.1GB backed up in 201,431 files  4.0GB verified in 201,430 files Started 11:01pm Finished 11:30pm etc, etc server1\e$ 45GB  backed up in 201,431 files  45GB  verified in 201,430 files Started 11:30pm Finished 01:30am etc, etc server2\c$ 5.1GB backed up in 201,431 files  5.0GB verified in 201,430 files Started 01:30am Finished 01:57ametc, etc server2\e$ ...

It would be nice if you could select multiple exclude dates by selecting "last day of the month," etc. For instance, I have a job that I want to NOT run on the last day of every month. Right now, I have to go in and individually select each day for the next five years or so, rather than being able to use the same functionality available in the Included dates

I recently started playing with BESR as have been using BEWS for years. What has always frustrated me was how it handled removable disks. Why didn't it treat them like it does tape? Media sets and all. There are work arounds such as not having a disk mounted prior to doing the restore does prompt for the volume id of the disk but it would have been nice to be able to have it prompt you for the device instead of simply saying not found if a different disk was mounted. Was going to see if ...

I really enjoy the VMWare agent for Backup Exec for Windows.  There is one thing I would like for it to do that it can't.  When you create a backup job for a virtual server it would be nice if you could pick a different vmware esx server host as the destination.  That way the virtual machine can be backed up directly to a machine where the vm can be turned on right away. Thanks, Andy

It would be nice if BackupExec Report can be published to our in-house Crystal Report server or Microsoft Report Server. With so many servers are created and recycled during daily life, backup requirements are changing dynamically. If the report can be published on one of our in-house report server, it can be made available from Sharepoint also. THanks,

Please add feature in Symantec Backupexec to print/save/archive to multiple formats of detailed information of all the data that is backed up daily/weekley/monthly/annually. The purpose of this is to satisfy SOX compliance and/or court order request.

It would be nice to have known that Backup Exec Agent for Macintosh does not support Mac Servers running Snow Leopard BEFORE we updated. There is no information at all on the Symantec site regarding SL Mac OS X 10.6. It would also be nice to have a way to be notified when/if an update that supports Snow Leopard is available
