It would be nice to have a list of known and confirmed bugs that Symantec support knows with a plan to fix it and maybe voting system (like in ideas) that we may vote what should be fixed first. With a bug there should be also ETA for a fix (in what release it will be fixed). Sometimes there is a known problem and even whitepapers available but only for internal use and it would be handy to be able to seek and reference something when calling support (obviously I'm not expecting that some ...

Of couse, this is the feature that already exist in other software such as TSM Fastback and Acronis. But I think it should also available within BESR and BEWS. Let say that when you submit restore job and the restored files/system suddenly accessible. The blocks that requested by application will be redirected to the backed up copy while the restore job running in background until finish. In case of BESR, after you submit the restore job. The system reboot to Windows system and start working ...

I recently started playing with BESR as have been using BEWS for years. What has always frustrated me was how it handled removable disks. Why didn't it treat them like it does tape? Media sets and all. There are work arounds such as not having a disk mounted prior to doing the restore does prompt for the volume id of the disk but it would have been nice to be able to have it prompt you for the device instead of simply saying not found if a different disk was mounted. Was going to see if ...

1.)  You should have the option for offsite copies when you select individual folders/files. Currently, this option is only available when you choose the ‘entire computer’. 2.)  You should have the option for making only offsite copies of your backup, w/o also having to select a local destination. The offsite option is grayed out if you don’t specify a local resource first (USB, network).

NFR or Not for Resale NFR licenses are freely given by Symantec in specific circumstances to resellers, partners, or customers.  It could be as part of a product demonstration, for a partner’s testing or support lab, or a reseller/consultant’s use to gain familiarity with the product as part of their sales catalog.  NFRs are also “donation ware,” and can be donated through a third-party administration site such as Tech Soup. Best Regards, Kenneth ...

Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 8.x is fully functional in Evaluation Mode for a period of 60 days after installing the product.  No license key is needed to invoke the product into Eval Mode.  Simply do not enter a license key when prompted during the initial installation of the product.  After the 60 day Eval period expires, if additional time is need to evaluation the product, you may extend the Eval period for an additional 30 days(Request for Eval Extender By ...

Hi Symantec,        We recently have purchased BESR 8.5 and BESRM (i.e. Manager). Before purchase we have installed BESR with eval license and check if it works upon our expectation and finally we purchased it. We do not checked BESRM, as we are expecting it is build to monitor all kind of backup job from BESR.        After installation we found, BESRM only can monitor the Drive backup (i.e. recovery point) of BESR and not the file/folder backup ...

It would be nice to have in the new version of BESR Manager a functionality to delete automatically recovery points on many clients. At the moment exist a very useful option in the "Manage backup destination" window to monitor disk space and delete old recovery point automatically. Unfortunately this option does not exist on the Manager and there is no other way to delete these recovery point other than delete recovery points client by client Giancarlo

You can configure an SMTP message.  But you receive event log messages which are cryptic for the casual user. Why can't you receive something as simple as a job log, or an email about "Successful," or "failure," or "successful with exceptions?"  As for reporting, there isn't any.  How about something as simple as all jobs and their status in the last 7,15, 30 days?  A pretty report, perhaps a chart of success/fail rates, and size of ...

BESR should allow one to target BOTH a drive letter OR a drive alias. While useful in the newer versions, where the alias is used.  This is an older feature that shouldn't have been removed in the 8.x builds. This way a single job could just target a drive letter (even better, let me create a drive pool! )  rather than having to create multiple jobs to target each target drive, even though it's the same backup type.

It would be really useful to customers and support specialists if you could change the language settings on any product. Under the help menu. Even if the program has to re-configure/restart it would be very helpful.

We have had several instances that a System Recovery job is missed for various reasons, hard drive gets full, third party app conflicts, etc. However, we are not notified by email alerts concerning this. It requires physically looking at the server to know if a backup has been missed, and this has gone on for a week in some cases. If there was a problem during that time, then System Recovery data is a week ago and this becomes VERY PROBLEMATIC. We request an option to be alerted about a ...

This is probably a problem in other forums, but I'll limit my request to BESR.  More Ghost version 14 and below traffic is appearing in the BESR forum.  Since these consumer versions of the product are based on the enterprise versions, a cross reference chart of the version numbers would be handy..  Sometimes a fix for one version does not apply to other versions.  With no frame of reference, it is sometimes difficult to offer accurate advice. This could be done as a ...

Hi All, I have been working on BESR since past two years. Its the best software for system restoration. It works with AD, Exchnage,SQL etc with no issues. many options are available expect one I have noticed. Like BEWS when creating a backup job we can assign a NIC card to perform backup, like wise in BESR we dont have such option. The option available is network throttling, we can increase or decrease the transfer limit, but we cant assign a seperate NIC card if we are taking ...

Currently, you can configure offsite copies only for backups of entire disks, but not if your backup job contains only files and folders. This is not really logical, nor consistent. The backup results simly in an image file. Why should it be possible to send one by ftp, the other not? For consistency, it should be possible to use the offsite copy feature for any type of Backup Exec System Recovery backup.

Hi, Will it ever be possible to push out the BESR agent without having to reboot afterwards - in the same manner as the Remote Agent for Backup Exec? Is it something that is not possible due to how the product works? Also. Would it ever be possible to carry out a mass deployment again in the same manner you can with the Backup Exec remote agent deployment. I realise i'm drawing comparisions between two different products but I had to ask! Finally are there plans to improve the ...

Hi, I miss the option to create a restore point on every friday of the week or month I find it strange that this option is not already implemented. Please get back to me soon, because our customers need this option. Thanks in advanced! Sandra
