It would be nice to have a list of known and confirmed bugs that Symantec support knows with a plan to fix it and maybe voting system (like in ideas) that we may vote what should be fixed first. With a bug there should be also ETA for a fix (in what release it will be fixed). Sometimes there is a known problem and even whitepapers available but only for internal use and it would be handy to be able to seek and reference something when calling support (obviously I'm not expecting that some ...

It iis necessary to specify each media server name in vmoprcmd command in order to bring a tape drive up or down or reset it. I thin it is very convinient to have an option -allhosts, which will run the command for all media servers connected to the same tape library. Example: vmoprcmd -up 1 -allhosts

This idea is for a tool to be created that can be run against a NetBackup deployment (master/media/clients) to check for Symantec best practices and make recommendations where necessary (items like number buffers/size buffers/media and master server resource utilization/clients or servers with old software versions). The tool could even be integrated into a product like NOM to run on a regular schedule and so that it could alert when items become out of compliance/best practice.

We regularly notice that jobs can't be cancelled, unless we stop all services on Master and Media servers (BPDOWN) Why can't jobs be cancelled no matter what, when an administrator cancels the job in the Netbackup GUI?

Hi, Currently the documentation for Netbackup (And I guess other products as well) is a big mix of Unix/Linux & Windows. It is a big pain to wade through the documentation and filter out stuff that isn't what you are looking for... Why not split all documentation in two? Windows Unix/Linux That way if you grab for instance a Windows PDF, you can be sure that everything in it is relevant for your Operating System. It will make things much clearer and an added advantage is that ...

Add information to Job Details indicating it is scanning images as it prepares reports. During Vault process, it ejects selected tapes then scan images as it prepares reports. Here is my current vault: 09/24/2009 09:22:20 - Media Ejected from Robot.  Please empty MAP. 09/24/2009 09:38:33 - Eject complete with status 0. 66 of 74 media ejected Here is the vault log:: 11:04:50.955 [8945] <2> vltrun@PassImageThruFilters^1941: IMG_ID=web-backup_1230699720 11:04:51.015 [8945] <2> ...

We have a pool for infinite backups for legal requirements, we do not need to vault them until they are full. My idea is to allow a vault option to select by tape status, so we could set to vault only after they are full. Currently we can select by: Attribute: Client Backup type Media server Policy Schedule Retention Location: Basic Disk Disk Pool Volume Group Volume Pool I would like to add MEDIA STATUS to these for selection or exclusion from the vault.

When looking at job details from the Windows Administration Console, the job status window isn't re-sizable. What do people think, would it be handy if it could be re-sized and had some scroll bars? -Sean

Currently the Symantec suggested method for accomplishing size-based load balancing is to use Storage Lifecycle Policies, which required additional licenses, or to do the duplication manually, bypassing Vault completely. Vaulting is only used to do ejects and print the reports thus devaluing a very useful and expensive add-on product to NetBackup. As Vault woks presently, it creates batches based on retention level and media server(s) designated to perform the duplications. In doing so it ...

Make available each Release Update of NetBackup binaries, agents etc as a new base install. Rather than the 2 step 1. GA install + options 2. Release Update + options This will help when deploying Servers and Clients as new installations particularly in a large environment. Save time. Diskspace. Bandwidth. etc This was recently available only for 64 bit Windows Server OS with NetBackup 6.5.4 Based on the size of recent Release Updates they seem the equivalent of a GA release - Unix NB_CLT ...

Right now NBU is not having the mail notification facility, we have to configure BLAT for repay. I think NBU should either integrate the BLAT within its installable or develop new embedded mail notification tool.

The HOT catalog backup policy gives the user the ability to write the backup to more than one copy, however, recovery is only possible from the primary (copy 1). Enterprise support case 281-855-640 was opened to recover from the second copy, but this was not possible.

I have 14 DSSU and only 6 tape drives. It would be nice to be able to run 3 DSSU simultaneously to a single tape drive. This issue is that I can not stream enough data from a single DSSU fast enough to maximize the capasity throughput of a single LTO3 tape drive.

This idea is to prevent a NetBackup Master server upgrade from being a requirement in order to support a new client type. For example, it is very painful to have to upgrade all NetBackup masters to a new code revision (testing, Q/A, change procedures, outages, etc.) to support a new client type like Windows Server 2008 R2 or SQL Server 2008. If the NetBackup code was possibly more modular, a new client could possibly be created that would still function without a NetBackup master upgrade. ...

The premise of this idea would be to provide a function similar to VMware DRS but for NetBackup policy scheduling. This feature would provide an option to adjust the policy schedule load balancing to either fully automated or partially automated based on a sliding "star type" scale like DRS. NetBackup would automatically balance fulls vs incrementals (or differentails) between the different days of the week (very helpful for those users performing fulls+incremental or ...

Hi all, In the current versions of Netbackup one must install NFS services on both Windows clients & media servers in order to be able to browse the granular restore files (Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint). Why is NFS needed for a granular restore? Please fix Netbackup so that restores can be done without starting all kinds of extra services... Also there is some rule that the GRT image should reside on disk storage only, before a granular restore can be done. Why? Granular ...

Hello, I would like to see a feature added to NetBackup vault that allows an administrator to set a theshhold on tape utilization as a criteria for eject. In other words, a box where I can say "If a tape is less than X% full, leave it in for one more night of backups." I feel this feature would help me squeeze more backups onto tape and therefore lower the costs of doing backups. Thanks.

To see at a glance live basic stats e.g. Total Jobs, Queued, Drives, Throughput. Maybe update every 5,10,30 seconds?

It would be nice to be able to click on a failed backup job from the NetBackup Administration Console and be able to create a Support Case that sends the log files, configuration information and contact information needed to troubleshoot the problem.
