If your SQL database is set to Full Recovery Mode, it maintains transaction logs.  If these logs are not truncated from time to time, they will grow and eventually fill up your disk.  BE will warn you that you need to truncate your log. I was a backup admin for many years. Backing up and restoring data was my job (along with managing high-end arrays and server infrastructure), with the brief to backup anything and everything. No questions asked, because when advising what we should be doing to streamline backups, I was always fobbed off. So file servers had every file backed up that belonged to users. This included illegal ...

Do I have to verify?    Here is a short summary of what’s up with that verify portion of the job that everyone says is so important, but seems to take too long.  To ensure your backups are healthy it is strongly recommended to run a Verify.  The Verify job checks that data can be read or restored from the media. Backup Exec includes this as a default in ...

I have developed a basic VSS Writer to support backing up of our application (an integrated accounting system) which uses our own bespoke database solution rather than a standard database solution such as SQL or Oracle. That VSS Writer works fine with other backup solutions we employ (e.g. Windows Server Backup) but not Backup Exec (it also works fine with Backup Exec System ...

It would be nice if Backup Exec could have an option added to allow a bespoke command to be run after the VSS snapshot has been taken. Because Backup Exec doesn't currently support our VSS Writer, we have to use the Pre-backup command to take our application offline and the Post-backup command to put it back online again. The application only needs to be offline while the snapshot is ...

Hi. I think it'd be helpfull to have the possibility to assign a user to only selected PC(s). The ability of backing up user's data from any PC to which he/she logs on and also to synchronize it is a very nice feature of DLO, but when you have many PCs and only few users need this functionality but the others, like administrators, who log on to not their own PCs don't, it creates ...

I would like to suggest adding allowing the BE administrator the ability to name  a manual duplicate job in Backup Exec 2012.    This would be very helpful. Instead of having a generic name such as Duplicate Backup Sets xxxxx, it would be helpful to name the job so that at a glance a few days later one can quickly see the manual job by what ever naming convention ...
