Hi all, Still struggling to get to grips with BE2012, this time with tape library options. We have an HP MSL2024 robotic library which contains 2 drives. If I look at the License summary screen on the BE server it shows that we have "library expansion option" and "virtual tape library unlimited drive option". Despite this, if I configure the MSL2024 as a single logical library BE2012 flags up ...

Hi All, I'm still trying to fine tune my backups to give the best bang for the buck time and effort wise. At present I am backing up all my Hyper-V vm's without GRT, and separately backing up my Exchange 2003 information store (VM). I was under the impression that if you backed up a VM using GRT then you could restore items like Exchange or AD, however I am unable to get this to work. When I ...

Hi All, How do you control the email that is sent to the recipient who's mail you are restoring? I would at the very least amend the wording, or possibly even stop it from sending. Am I missing something obvious here?   Regards,   Colin

Understanding Compression in Backup Exec: An explanation of Hardware and Software compression used with Backup Exec   How does compression work? It can be better explained with an example. Is Your Backup Strategy as Agile as Your Data Center? Virtualization has changed how organizations deploy and manage IT. Most IT departments have virtualized a majority of their servers. However, they continue to source, build, manage, and support their backup infrastructure in the same manner as they did in the pre-Virtualization era. A backup strategy that combines the server, storage, ...

I can't begin to tell you how frustrating this one is. If a backup job targets a storage pool, and has to split a backup set into multiple "spans" across multiple members, the only place the backup set appears is under the member containing first span. Even if the first span is in B2D folder A and all of the rest are in B2D folder B, the backup set appears only in the Backup Sets list of ...

Hi, We have a requirment to use BE to backup the SQL2012 server as do many others. What feature we would like to add is to be able to backup specific databases and then start a targeted restore of the same databases. Why?  The goal is to do a QA/Dev database refresh every weeknight. We want to take the backup of the production databases every night and restore them to the QA SQL server. ...

It's crazy -- the only job that appears in my tape drive's Jobs list is the one that goes directly to tape! None of the Duplicate phases of D2D2T jobs appear.    This despite the fact that there is only one tape drive and each Duplicate phase targets the drive specifically. Any job that targets a device should appear in that device's job list -- period.
new idea 21 Apr 2014
I've noticed that during some of my BE 2012 D2D2T jobs, the "used" portion of the tape stays the same in Storage dasboard's display bar until the duplicate phase ends, after which it jumps the full amount written to the tape.  It would be great if this was updated during the job.   This is more of a "quality of life" issue -- if you're monitoring a backup job ...
