It’s one of the highlights of the year, and this year not only didn’t disappoint, it was the best one yet. While the conference is officially ending tomorrow, the majority of the action has taken place, and the closing party is tonight as well. Did I mention The Black Keys are playing (woohoo!), a great band I look forward to seeing live. This year VMware set up a ‘pub crawl’ style reception ...

One of my favorite things about VMWorld is the attendee mindset. People come here to have fun and socialize, and San Francisco is a great town, but they are here first and foremost to learn, explore, and grow from the event. The sessions are so numerous to choose from that many organizations send a few representatives, the labs are educational and practical. Where I see the best example of ...

As an IT administrator, there are few things which conjure more of a sick feeling in the pit of one’s stomach than a disastrous event which corrupts or loses company data. Data is the second currency of a business after actual currency, so losing it is not an option. These disastrous events take all kinds of forms including natural disasters, data breaches from hackers, accidental data ...

“And… here, we, go.” – (Heath Ledger’s immortal performance as Joker) The opening reception was actually as expected, it was bigger than ever; at least it seemed that way, looking more like GITEX than ever before. With the announced attendance of 22,000 people it would have to be bigger. The floor was packed with the usual suspects, up and comers going for bigger booths than before, and the ...

As I sit on the current alternative of the ‘nerd bird’ (as we used to affectionately call the American AUS-SJC direct) I’m on the DFW-SFO, catching up and geeking out with old colleagues, analysts I’ve worked with and listening to the grumpy lady in front of me who keeps calling the flight attendant over to complain about a luggage policy – I’m reminded of how much things have changed since I ...

Backup Exec 2012 and 2014 offer possibilities to import holidays into the configuration in order to exclude those days from having backup jobs run. Unfortunately, there's no possibility to use wildcards in the import files, which makes the creation of the import file quite difficult. Therefore we've created a tool, that provides a GUI to create such import files. As of today, the tool able to ...

The following scripts will enable you to find all servers with Remote Agents installed and will export to a .csv file. It is strongly suggested to use these scripts on a test environment first: 1. Download the "ServerList.zip" file. 2. Extract it to a folder. 3. Move the folder to a server where Backup Exec Database (BEDB) is stored. 4. If the Backup Exec instance is the default one ...

Can we please get an option in the Vmware policy template to "try quiescing first", but continue without if the vmware tools service is not running (or not installed)? Similar to how the option to "Try SAN, NBD, etc.." If the job completes without a successful quiesce, perhaps it would return a Status 1 and report the issue on the job details.   Thank you!
