Symantec System Recovery 2011, formerly Backup Exec System Recovery, adds the following new features:

Updated support for the latest Microsoft® Windows®, Linux, VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer operating systems and applications: With Symantec System Recovery 2011, we continue to build on our proven track record of comprehensive system protection for the latest Windows, Linux, VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer operating systems and applications including: SharePoint® 2010, Exchange 2010 SP1, SQL 2008 R2, VMware vSphere™ 4.1, VMware ESX® 3.5 update 5, Citrix XenServer 5.6, SUSE® Linux® Enterprise Server 10 SP3, 11 and 11 SP1 and Red Hat® Linux® 5.4, 5.5 and 6.0.

Enhanced Symantec System Recovery Management Solution: The Symantec System Recovery Management Solution is a highly scalable centralized management solution designed to centrally manage large numbers of Symantec System Recovery clients from a single management server. The Symantec System Recovery Management Solution can manage up to 2,500 systems per console and can now be installed to and hosted on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server.

Enhanced customizable recovery disk wizard: Additional flexibility has been added to the customizable recovery disk wizard with the option to select an .ISO image as the source for a custom recovery disk. This is especially helpful for larger organizations that already utilize a customized version of the Symantec System Recovery Disk and would like to use it as the source for future modifications to their recovery environment.

All-in-one backup and recovery USB device: With new wizard functionality, you can easily transform a USB device into a bootable Symantec System Recovery Disk device to help reduce boot time and speed up the recovery process.  Adding this boot functionality to a USB device is a non-destructive process, allowing USB devices enabled to be bootable recovery devices to also act as backup storage—creating an all-in-one backup and recovery device.

Hi, We checked fileconnect

Hi,

We checked fileconnect and we can confirm that the software is available for download. If you are on maintenance you should have received a version upgrade notification yesterday with a new serial number. You must use the new serial number to access SSR 2011. If you are using your previous serial number, that will continue to take you to the previous version.

If you did not receive you upgrade notification email please follow the instructions below.

Request Your Symantec System Recovery 2011 Version Upgrade Notification Email

Hi Christian,

Yes, you are certainly entitled to an upgrade. You will be able to download Symantec System Recovery (SSR) from fileconnect from Thursday onwards, which is when the SSR license keys will be posted for those customers who have today BESR as part of a bundled solution.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks, Kate

And was shocked

The request opened a case for review

Your question has been received. You should expect a response from us within one to two business days

The next day I did get a response

“Thank you for contacting Symantec Customer Business Operations. We completed our research and are providing the information.

The upgrade information to SSR 2011 which is bundled with your SPS EE 3.0 license is not posted yet in fileconnect. It will be posted in Fileconnect website on April 07, 2011. You may access https://fileconnect.symantec.comon April 07, 2011 using the serial number for your SPS EE 3.0 license which is M######### to download SSR 2011.”

Ware is the promised Email?

They set all this up screen shots of the email and explain it all out and when you try to follow there procedure every thing is changed?

And you can get it in a few days

Now I feel bad as I told others to follow want Symantec told me to do and its wrong

Thanks

On or about this coming Thursday, April 7th, Symantec System Recovery 2011 will be posted to File Connect. At that time, you will be able to login to File Connect to download the software using your current “M” serial number tied to the license for one of the Symantec Protection Suites mentioned below.

·         Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise Edition 3.0 – Includes Desktop Only

·         Symantec Protection Suite Small Business Edition 3.0 – Includes Desktop Only

·         Symantec Protection Suite Advanced Business Edition 3.0 – Includes Both Desktop and Server

There will be not be an official communication. And no notification email will be sent. The official communication will happen when the suite upgrades. ( not sure with the exact date)

Hi Linas, There are two

Hi Linas,

There are two upgrade processes depending on whether you purchased BESR as a standalone offering or through a bundled offering. The information I gave you pertained to customers that purchased BESR as a standalone offering.

Customers who purchased a solution which included BESR as a component will receive a upgrade notification email when the main product has a new release. However, we wanted to provide those customers with the ability to upgrade BESR as close as possible to the launch of SSR. Therefore, the SSR files will be available from fileconnect on Thursday April 7th - just a few days after the release of SSR. We have posted a README file with instructions and an offline/generic license key for SSR (on the SPS FileConnect pages) so that customers who purchased the bundle can use SSR 2011 without waiting for the version upgrade.

I do hope this additional information helps.

Well, it isn't listed as a supported OS on the System Requirements, so this is no surprise. SP 1 was released on Feb 22nd so that is well past the cut off point for inclusion in the product.

No doubt the engineering teams are busy working on an update to allow this, as by now a lot of businesses will be finding out they cant upgrade to SSR2011, as they have already deployed SP1.

Cheers

Just to clarify here: it's only the SSR Management Solution that is currently not supported with SP1. SSR 2011 itself is supported with SP1 for 2008 R2.

HI Chris,

The System requirements section on the product page needs to be updated then to reflect this fact, otherwise Joe public will make the same mistake I did.

You are referring to this section, right?

  • Windows Server 2003
  • Windows Essential Business Server 2008 and 2011

Agree with you; this needs correcting so it's clearer. Leave that with me.

Hi Niles, The SSR 2011 Server

Hi Niles,

The SSR 2011 Server and Virtual Edition supports Windows 2008 R2 SP1. However, SSR 2011 Management Solution does not yet support being installed to Windows 2008 R2 SP1 (only Windows 2008 R2). The SSR 2011 Management Solution does support remotely managing SSR 2011 clients on Windows 2008 R2 SP1.

Does this help?

Thanks, Kate

Very soon, than very later

I understand, you need to draw the line somewhere. With that said, I hope that Symantec has a new build out very very soon. I am a bit concerned as it took them this long to support Server 2008 from the previous version 8.5. That was very painful.

Thanks,

Niles

Recovery Disk

We had the Backup Exec 2010 installed and we created unique recovery disks for each computer.  Will those disks still work with Recovery 2011?  or do we need to re-create the disks now that 2011 is installed?

Reindl,

Yes, I don't see any reason why the SRDs for 2010 wont work with SSR 2011. Having said that, it's always recommended to use the most recent version/build to take advantage of the latest features and bug fixes.

In terms of license

In terms of license activation, SSR 2011 is not backwards compatible to 2010 or old versions.

Hi All We have several

Hi All

We have several clients running on Microsoft Small Business server 2011 and BackupExec 2010 R3.With the BE license  our clients received the licenses for BESR 2010.Since BESR is replaced with SRSE,

1.Is SBS 2011 supported in SRSE ?

2.Can we use the same license keys to install SRSE?If so from where can we download this?Should we download a trial version and use the license key or  does this needs to be downloaded from symantec fileconnect?

Thanks

Manual uninstallation documentation?

After the update with SEP12 Beta and the uninstallation, the SR2011 became corrupted. Is there a uninstallation program or document to assist with uninstallation.
