Announcing a New Way to Connect
Filed under: Endpoint Management and Virtualization
As many of you may have heard, The Juice is about to undergo a big upgrade. The new site, called Symantec Connect, will be a combination of the Juice, the Altiris Technical Support Forums and Symantec Technology Network. Juice content and users will move to the new site on February 25th, followed by The Altiris Tech Support Forums and Symantec Technology Network later that week.
While we’re still busy getting everything ready I wanted to give you a quick peek at what’s coming. We hope you like it.

How will this affect
Juice Points? Wasn't answered in this question. Will we still be able to earn points and cash them in for rewards or will we have to spend those points before Feb. 27.
Will miss the old juice site as it is easier to use and more user friendly.
Hopefully we aren't loosing the great ohzone or the irc chat link either. Though I bet we are loosing the IRC channel.

You have to ask why.
Why do we always loose the best tools because the fools do not know what we need and use to manage our Altiris products.
Who here is interested in loosing the Juice and Forums? -- No one.
From a symantec e-mail today:
"Announcing a great new way to connect! On March 1st Symantec Technology Network will be migrated to a new community site called Symantec Connect. This new community destination will replace Symantec's three community sites (STN, The Juice and the Altiris Tech Support Forums). "
Support is impossible to call, no one answers the front desk phone in Lindon, and every Altiris productivity tool we have will eventually be gone.
I am sad that we are loosing all of these resources that took 5 years to build up.

How will users be assimilated to the new site?
I echo JJesse's concerns about juice points. I'm also concerned about User Group members that we just got migrated to the 'Altiris Juice' a few months ago and now they have to go through migrating to the 'Symantec Juice'.
It would not be good to lose UG members. After all, it is users who buy and use Symantec products.

Juice Points and User Groups
We will retain the points system and it will function almost identically to how it works today on the Juice. Point values will remain the same and your points will transfer over.
Regional user groups (and memberships in those groups) will also transfer over.
IRC channel
Peter,
Will there still be a link for the Altiris IRC Chat Room on the new site?
Unfortunately the IRC chat
Unfortunately the IRC chat won't be there in the first release, but we're currently scoping features for the 1.1 release of the site (launching in April). I've added it to the priority list. We'll see what we can do.
Is there anything you'd change about how IRC chat works or would you want it exactly as it is now?
Nothing
The ability to sign into the IRC chat enhances the community feel of Juice and I don't think enough people realize the potential for support that can come from chatting with fellow Symantec professionals. Maybe renaming it from #altiris to #symantec to further strengthen it to be a spot for all Symantec proffesionals to chat would be great.
But for the renaming whoever is the channel op would have to do it

Altiris IRC Chat
thanks for the input jjesse but I'm firm on keeping it an Altiris chat room... I don't want this to become a general chat... I want this chat for people who are requiring help from Altiris products... if and when Symantec really does engulf all of the Altiris products and there will no longer be the Altiris name... then I will end up changing the chat room name.
Its all up to you guys (webmaster of the new site) if you want to link the chat... The chat will always be around though if you guys decide not too.. you wont be taking down the chat, just removing the link.
Right now I haven't found an easy way to embed IRC chats besides the current mbit app you guys are using. Thats the best one I've found. Currently most of the chat room operators use www.mirc.com (a standalone app for IRC chat) or many others like xChat and I think firefox has something.
I agree with jjesse on the fact that I don't think people understand the amount of knowledge and help that are floating in the chat room every week day from 8-5. Its become an amazing tool for many Altiris Administrators and a great social networking tool for people in the Altiris industry.
If you have any questions, shoot me an email or better yet! drop in the chat and ask me!
I hope it's for the better
I just learnt of Juice recently, and am yet to get up to speed before a new iteration is released. However, I do hope that the change is for the better, we definitely do not want to loose a vibrant community which took years to build up, like this one! =)
