The latest release for Symantec Validation and ID Protection Service (VIP) featuring push verification technology has been made generally available to customers. View the Symantec Press Release: Symantec Rolls Out New Solutions to Keep Mobile Devices More Secure.
With the proliferation of data breaches and weak or stolen credentials, two-factor authentication is even more necessary to protect your online data from getting into the wrong hands. Symantec VIP helps protect online accounts by providing a credential to end users to augment a user name and password for safe and secure sign-in. With this new feature, the user can be prompted for a push verification from the VIP Access application and quickly approve on his or her mobile device when signing in to an online account. This new push authentication method is convenient and secure for end users - without requiring an extra code to be manually entered – and uses the same VIP Access mobile app that can be downloaded for free on personal or corporate-owned devices.
VIP Access Push saves users time by sending a push verification to the registered mobile device upon sign-in, replacing the need for the user to manually enter a security code. With the touch of a button a user can approve the request, which is then verified by Symantec, and a confirmation is instantly sent back to the web application to complete the sign-in.
VIP Access Push uses out-of-band two-way challenge-response authentication based on a 2048-bit asymmetric key to securely and uniquely identify the device and help protect against a security breach. Users are notified on their device each time there is a login attempt and have the option to deny any request.
In the event that a mobile device is offline, users will have the option to use the six-digit security code from the same VIP Access app to authenticate. The VIP Access Push feature is supported on iOS and Android platforms for customers authenticating to web-based applications.
