Q:

A:
Great question, Clark. Applications and software that are tightly linked to the operating system, such as system drivers, OS patches, and Internet Explorer, and server-based applications such as Microsoft SQL Server and Apache are not officially supported in SVS 2.0.

However, you'll want to frequently visit this Wiki article that shows users' experiences with both supported and unsupported applications virtualized with Altiris SVS.

Somewhere exists a full list of applications really not supported (officially and also not officially) by SVS?

Thanks

We specify three categories of software: 1 - anything with a driver, 2 - OS components and 3 - server apps. It would be impossible to make a useful list of everything in all three of those categories. What we can supply, however, is a list of exceptions to those three categories. Many products in these categories do in fact work just fine, and we're getting requests from enterprise customers to officially support things they find are working.

The only official exception so far is the Adobe PDF Writer print driver. During the original betas, we got feedback that almost every customer uses that somewhere in their environment, so we make an exception prior to release of 2.0. The most popular request right now is Oracle clients that contain drivers. There are some tricks, so we're getting doc together and will then add them to the list as well.

Many users have shared their experiences using SVS on a plethora of products.

You can find their notes (and add your own) at http://wiki.altiris.com
