Q:
Dennis wrote, "Using Barcode Solution 6.6 SP1, I would like to be able to scan a computer and then link it to the monitor attached to that computer. Essentially, I want to create an asset-to-asset resource association via the Barcode Solution. What I envision is a technician out on the floor and scanning several different asset types (computers, monitor, phone, etc.) and then when the data is uploaded into the Notification Server, I will have an association created between the assets. Is that possible, or is this an enhancement request?"

A:
Thank you for writing, Dennis. In the current 6.6 product the ability to associate one to many associations is not available. The asset-to-asset you need is a one to many association. However, this is currently on the roadmap for the next major release for both "out of the box" and custom association types.

For the example of scanning

For the example of scanning many locations... I would put in the user and scan all the assets to it. I think Dennis would be OK with this since most cubes have a user assigned to them.
You could do a SQL query on the asset to see what it is associations are.

Another feature...

It would also be nice that in the next release that you can associate a single scan of a barcode to more than one field. In many cases the barcode being scanned is the same for both serial number, barcode and asset name. In the current release the process requires the user to scan the device 3 times before the asset is created with these 3 values in Barcode. By allowing the end user to scan a barcode once but have it represent nultiple pieces of data such as serial number and asset name would greatly improve the efficiency of the scanning process and the Barcode Solution.
