As you may have noticed, the rewards program catalog has seen some changes recently. We're excited to announce that you now have more options. Through the variety of gift cards offered (particularly Amazon.com) you can receive any of the items previously offered, and more!  And at the same rates.

The change was made strictly due to financial reasons. It's very expensive to ship items around the world. Often we found that we were paying 7 or 8 times the cost of the items just to ship them. Those are costs that are tough to justify, especially in these tough economic times. We had a couple of options:

  • Increase the cost of rewards across the board (which would have penalized all of our users).
  • Charge shipping back to the recipient (which would have penalized our non-US users).
  • Go to an electronic redemption model.

Hopefully, electronic redemption will work out for everyone. We will be adding more electronic redemptions for other international locations as quickly as we can. If there is not a redemption option for where you live, please send me a PM and we will work to find a solution.

Thanks,

Leslie Miller

Leslie,

i like the new system and especially the fact that now even more people can use it. For Europe the best option is to go through Amazon.de. This is for the europe country's that use the Euro instead of GBP.
I used Amazon.de for some time and as tough as it is to find the correct german word for an item i'd liked, it works out great.

Leslie,
Can the links to the previous items be posted somewhere?    Some of them are fairly generic (like the hard drives, GPS, etc), but some of them are a little cooler (like the flashlight) and might be a bit harder to track down.

Thanks,

I read on the rewards page the message below:
NOTE: When you click "Order Now" your request will be processed immediately. (Think before you click!)

But my fingers are really faster than my mind...  and happened a reward request in just 1 sec.

My question, could be created a confirmation before go ahead withReward requests ?

Riva11 I'm not sure but I think they confirm the request later before proceding. It could then be cancel later on. But a confirmation page would be good to save time and work for the people handling the request.

I was a bit dubious at first, having had my eyes on the Kindle for a while now.  After my experience today, though, I'm sold on the gift certificates.  I sent my e-mail request for multiple Amazon.com gift certificates at around 2:00 today.  Barely an hour later, I received a claim code to apply to my Amazon account, and will be ordering my shiny new kindle (and case) this evening.

Thanks, Connect Reward Overlords!

I just checked its 175 points for 15$ card.It doesn't make sense to me.
That means if would have redeemed 700 point 2 days back i would have gifs worth 105$ now in 2 days the whole reward is reduced to 60$.
The price of the electronic items are same all across the world ( everything comes from one source )
So if i buy a I-pod from amazon.com for 100$ in india the price of that I-pod will be about the same not 100--rs but the amount after converting 100 dollars to INR.
Doesn't look much promising..it feels like somebody just deducted 40% of my reward points.

I would agree there are charges if you buy 15$ Card but what if i want to get a voucher for 7000 points. Will i get a one card or 40 cards.
I know the limit of eShagun is 200$ can we get upto 200$ on special request, Or even above 200..
Does these kind of "Special Requests" still exist ?

I'm sorry that the $15 eShagun card takes more points to redeem than the other cards on the list. The reality is eShagun charges us a processing fee every time we order one of their cards -- the other vendors, like Amazon.com, do not.

Vikram,

The price of electronic items is NOT the same across the world.

Say an IPod costs $100 US on Amazon.com, you'll find that on the UK Amazon for about £90 when it should be something like £60 if you use $ to £ conversion.

Just thought that is worth mentioning -- and it's ALWAYS been like that between at least the US and the UK.

@rob -so how much do you get for 100 point in pounds( sorry i dont have the pound symbol on my keyboard)
it is based on conversion rate or the other living standard cost or something like tht i don't remember what it was called.
the UK and EURO amazon its 15$ ( USD ) for 100 points so how they get converted based on conversion rate or what ?

in INDIA the cost diffrence is not that much

I-POD rates on Amazon.com ( in USD )

""Points required for redemption have increased due to shipping and service fees charged by vendor"

as eShagun card ranges from 15 to 200 why can't we have 200 Card as well on the list as it would bring down the service cost and shipping cost as well.

Thanks for your reply Vikram,

I've asked the rewards team to investigate the possibility of adding a $200 eShagun option to the catalog.

The case made by you and other posters here on the thread is a good one.

I'll keep you posted. Kevin

I have redeemed some points when the catalog was showing 100 points for $15 but due to the sudden changes they deducted 175 points per $15.  They however are providing with $200 card but charging the same number of points as of a $15 card.
In the eshagun website, Service Charges and shipping charges for $15 card: $10.43
while Service Charges and Shipping Charges for $200 card: $28.92 (only 1/4th price compared to a $15 card).
So actually they should charge 1600 points for a $200 card. But Currently they are deducting 2335 points for a $200 card.
Maybe there is a point to think.

@vikram

100 points got me £9.208... it's based on dollar to pound conversion as far as I understand.  For instance I just traded in 500 points, and got £46.04 woth of voucher.. via email.

...why not make multiple denominations available?

If I want to redeem 1000 points for ten $15 gift cards, I have to go through the process on here ten times, then apply up to ten gift card numbers on Amazon.com.

For those of us with more points, why not do something like this:

100 pts - $15
200 pts - $30
500 pts - $75
1000 pts - $150

Sorry, all, if some of my responses seem terse. It's just hard to get up in the morning face a crowd that appears to be angry because of the way Symantec is distributing perks.

I think Symantec is doing a wonderful thing by offering small rewards to knowledge workers around the world who help out in this community. Symantec should be commended for this groundbreaking work and for the resources they're investing in this program.

The program is young. We'll work to make it better but it will take time. And, given the diverse world we live in, it will probably never be all things to all people.

Please know that we are reading your comments and will work to implement as many of your suggestions as are feasibly possible.

Thank you for your patience.

I agree Sym Connect is still young specially the rewarding part of it..But still it is the best technical forum anybody might have come across.
We are not complaining it was just an suggestion..so that everybody is happy...

Its true that Symantec is the best forum we have come acrossed and its doing a wonderful thing by rewarding to its users.   And of course no one is angry.  We are here to share and gain knowledge and rewards are just a bonus.  It was just suggestion from our side and we are very happy that the admins address all our concerns.

Hi Kevin

As other indian users I also feel sorry for my luck .
When I started posting in this forum there were no rewards programs from symantec  so I never thought for any reward against my posting .But  after rewards program started  I just wanted to get something (product not mentioned) from amazon.com , for which I asked amazon customer care but they refused to ship to India. So I thought when I will have enough points I will contact rewards@webwise.com as suggested in the forum. But Now when I have enough points for the product rewards@webwise.com refused to help me for this and said I can use e-shagun gift cards.

But as compared to amazon cards  e-shagun cards cost more points .means Indian users have to spend more points for the same value gift coupons. means Now my account has less points for the  same product .

I would Like to see $200 e-shagun gift cards for  less service charges as for this we have to apply only once not 200/15 times.

Also will be happy if  rewards@webwise.com continue to serve  against some extra points for shipping/customs etc.

This rewards programs seems to benifit US users more than others.

Anyway this techinical forums is same for all  geographical locations.

This is my request to you to think about the above two suggestions.  Is rewards@webwise.com will be closed now .after this new reward program.

rewards@webwise.com should be there  for some extra points .this will benifits global users.

@Bijay-- The eShagun is the best reward we can expect. As from eShagun Visa-Card your options no more remain limited. You can use it even in the store next to you..

200$ for 1600 points is the actual amount we should get..its plain mathematics.
Actual amount+Service charge+Shipping Charge.

175 for 15$ is really too much..But everybody over here is not here for just points...you stay here ..you learn..you help..you share..in the mean time you won't even know and you'll have enough points.

You will have to understand Symantec is a US based company.Still they are doing as much possible to stay global even in terms of rewards which is next to impossible.

"""Also will be happy if  rewards@webwise.com continue to serve  against some extra points for shipping/customs etc."""

in one of Leslie's comment i read it took a about 75$ for a10$ LeatherMan Micra tool ( i ordered it some time back its a cool one)
So just think 100 point = 1 Micra shipping+custom = 750 points.+ you can't be sure the delivery boy won't ask you for more..
+ the most important thing..what if you order a laptop...points deducted and everything done..then something happens on Mumbai Airport or after that and it never gets delivered..beleive me this happens a lot specially for electronics items.
In eShagun once you get the Card then you have to logon to their website to activate it..isn't that secure aswell.

There are a few items like iPods that were in the Symantec mailroom when they changed their shipping policy.

Those items are being shipped.

@mon_raralio you should ask the rewards team, via the ticket that was opened when you ordered the item, about the status of your order.

I doubt anyone on this thread can help you with your order status.

Hi Kevin, I just did :D (This is for the rest, just for reference):
"We have ad some changes in the items Symantec can ship as part of it's rewards program. Unfortunatly, you have been caught in the middle of that change. It looks like we will still be able to ship your item in the next couple of days and you will get a tracking number then. If not you will hear back from us in the next couple of days."

And if this is important:
"After investigating further I found that we also need a zip or postal code for your address. Could you provide that for us?"

“Your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning.”

Just to clarify, mon_raralio placed his order a while back.

His order was waiting in the Symantec mailroom for some missing postal information.

His order was one of the last to be processed through the mailroom (because it was already in the building).

Quick update on the gift certificates front. Users have started to receive their eShagun cards and all appears to be well with that type of redemption.

I was skimming through the rewards page. There is no "order now" link next to the amazon.com certificates although the link on 'click here' for multiple denominations works - by opening an email. And viewing the rewards page in IE7 puts the images on top of the text. Everything looked fine in Firefox.

Seems that all my orders will still be coming from the U.S. :)

Hi Leslie,

Does this mean you guys will work on getting something from South Africa where I live? Or get an online partner here?
I am basically saving for a digital SLR which I would get at a decent price in the USA. Unfortunately, the US doesn't ship to SOuth Africa meaning I can only get it here...and the packages here are poor. I'd basically have to double my points in order to get what I wanted =(

Well, what I'd REALLY like is in the US's Amazon.com, and nowhere else. However, they don't ship it here directly :(

If I worked up enough points to cover what I'd like, and shipping, would you guys send it over to me?
To give you an idea:

If I bought what I wanted on Amazon.com, it would cost me about R4500 (South African Rands). To buy a similar product with half of the Amazon.com bundle, I will be paying R14200.
If not, I will make another plan!
