Clean Deactivation

fbuonvino's picture

Getting errors when deactivating your Google Earth layer? It's a problem that user fbuonvino has taken the time to troubleshoot and explain (for those of us who get cold chills when we see error messages).

You could have noticed that a request for Deactivation of some layers leads to Error like:

You could always deactivate the layer by choosing Yes, but it is not good practice, because it can lead to problems like losing data or worse.

I noted that the problem is often generated by the the fact that a program, although manually closed, continues to run in the background. To stop it, it is often sufficient to click the specific Exit command in the program icon located in the System Tray.

Unfortunately some program installations do not put the icon in the system tray, so you need to do that expressly. This is the case with Google Earth, but it is simple to fix: During program installation (capturing) you go to the installation options and specify it to show the Google Earth icon in the SystemTray, and complete the installation.

Then, after having used and closed the program of your interest, you click the Exit command in the systray-prgm-icon and proceed smoothly with a clean deactivation.

AutoCloseApps

Are you using the AutoCloseApps registry key?

Google Earth

Not all applications have the ability to put the icon in the taskbar.

For these apps autocloseapps is a better way.

Thanks

I've only had one layer that this registry key would not kill the process on every instance. It's very rare and annoying when that happens.

In this case we used an external process to stop a service or kill the process using an OnPreDeactivate and/or and OnPreDelete.

Is there a resource

Is there a resource on the Juice that tells us how to use AutoCloseApps?

I think that I tried to use it in the past and it did not work for me...

Is there any settings for

Is there any settings for Adobe Readers ?, because sometimes I see the same errors with Adobe Readers ( in different versions) , thinking about these issues I found that was a pending session not closed even if I used this program before and correctly closed.
Thanks

Ahum...

Riva11,
These settings are do-able for every Layer, for reference see "MultiTool" or "AA Console".

Cheers, FrankB

Adobe problems

Riva11, it is not a pending job that stays on, but a printer kernel driver. i tried to take it out of the package, but then still it does not work.

It is the same as with the Dymo label printer.

You have to take the printer driver out of the package and deploy it straight into the image.

L'utility è semplice da attuare e molto utile per trattare, in maniera generalizzata, l'argomento della chiusura delle applicazioni, a condizione che operiate nel Registro con la dovuta precisione ed accortezza.
