Cleanup of a VSP Before Distribution

March 21st, 2007
When I am deploying a NEW Virtual Software Package, and I have it where I like it there are a few steps I do to "CLEAN-IT-UP" and prepare it for Distribution as a .VSA file through Altiris.
First thing I do is RESET the layer.
Second thing I do is go to the c:\FSLDR\# and delete the folder that looks like this S-1-5-21-112987585-3770-..... As far as I can tell, that is a SID and can not be in a Clean package.
Third thing I do is go to REGEDIT
HKLM\Software\FSLDR\2\HU\S-1-5-21-112987585-3770-..... Then I delete this one too.
At this point the layer is as clean as it can be....and I have found it to be SAFE to export. Export to a TEST machine and give it a shot.
Good Luck to everyone.

SVS-Cleaner and manual steps
Does SVS-Cleaner clean out the above registry keys as well? Or should I do both (manual clean and run tool)?
Thanks.
Another tip:
1st: Good article, I forget to remove the Registry Settings every time.
2nd: Do not activate the layer when you cleaned it, export immediately.
3rd: Also check if the directory's/Registry with the SID numbers do not contain settings you want to be included in the exported Layer.
Kind Regards, Starf0x

SIDS in ACL
I do the same as you described.
After exporting the "clean" VSA I rename it to ZIP. In these zip files there are ACL files in the 2 layers. These ACL files can contain SIDS (S-1-5-21-112987585-3770-..... ).
I remove these SIDS as well. (I'm not sure I'm allowed to do it, but my VSA's are working fine.)
Removing sids
Removing the sids is a very good step.
This will make the VSA definetly independed. Some applikation are using the sid that contains wrong data from the username and/or computername that is used.
In packaging this is a necessary step.

Re: Delete more
Hi Erik,
I have seen the SVS Cleaner, but I don't
know what I can delete.
My Problem is, my English is too bad.
Unfortunately, I cannot understand a lot from the forum and the SVS homepage.
Hence, I need a reliable tool.
Maybe there are sometimes German reports!

Cleaning up is paramount
This is great info! The more I crawl through the VSAs the smaller, quicker and more reliable, across my platforms they get!
Cleaning VSAs
Cleaning your packages is the best way to achieve total independent applications.
